PC Novice - Help a budget build

Hello,

I've never owned a PC before, however I have a steam deck/Mac combo, I'm looking to convert both into a PC Build.

Games I'm mostly playing at the moment are Witcher 3, Doom Eternal, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and occasionally data 2.

I'm hoping for something that would play around 60fps - I have a 4k monitor but happy with 1080p around medium settings, I also own a mouse, keyboard and a friend donated me his NZXT H510i case so I'm hoping to fit a build into that.

Any help would be appreciated, Ideally I'd like to go budget and maybe £600 but I can reasonably stretch to £1000 if needed.

I don't think you'll get anything but an office-spec PC for £600, and £1100 is probably the lowest we've seen a 1080p rig come out at.

There are options to reduce this if you're happy with using an APU (CPU with embedded GPU) but you'd have to be willing on playing at 1080p low settings - otherwise there'd have to be so many corners cut as to make it a 'throwaway' PC which would need replacing rather than upgrading if you wanted better performance in a year or two.

We try not to configure 'throwaway' builds, as we tend to get customers coming back moaning that their PC is shutting down after they've put a more powerful GPU in - because they put the cheapest/lowest wattage PSU they could get away with; or they can't do a simple CPU swap because they're on the last-gen platform; or can't add another m.2 because they bought the budget motherboard; etc.

For example, here is a 1080p build where the extra £100 too it from a poor 1080p build to a decent one.

But even then, we think we've cut some corners to get the price down that low, such as prefering an 850/1000W PSU to cover a future GPU upgrade for 1440p/4k gaming; faster RAM (as AMD sweet spot is 6000MHz); separate m.2 drives for the OS and the game installs (to mitigate a single m.2 failure losing everything).

...and in some cases, an extra £50-£100 gives you the next tier of GPU, PSU, RAM or storage.

Thank you for the very quick response and honest answer - I'm sure I could stretch the extra 100 :)

Stretching the extra £100 and using the NZXT H510i via the send in your own case should do very nicely for the sort of spec we would whole heartedly recommend.
