To know if this is a good spec for your needs or not, we need the following information:

- Monitor to be used with this system? Resolution and refresh rate or make and model if unsure. Gaming systems are always specced according to the monitor

- Any other uses to take into account? Editing? Streaming? things like that

Let us know the above and we can advise appropriately but it may be likely that an AMD system would be more appropriate (and cost effiecient too)

-In terms of monitor I’m a novice so if there is a monitor you could recommend That would be great.

-The PC will be use predominantly for gaming i.e simulation and occasional shooting games etc.

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Jordan

One more question I didn't think to ask (my bad):

Does the above listed budget include both monitor and system or is there extra budget for a monitor? We can do you a good system either way but it's good to know

Above budget is excluding monitor.

Kind regards,

Jordan

Brilliant, thanks for the this. I may bite the bullet and go for the RTX2080. Though there are rumours that the 3000 series may be out soon?

Also, unfortunately that monitor is unavailable. Is there another monitor you’d recommend?

Kind regards,

Jordan

The monitor is not showing as unavailable here? Just doen a brand new spec and it's not showing as unavailable? Are you sure you were looking at the right MSI? If you just click on the URL at the bottom of the spec Scott listed, it will take you straight to the spec and you can order from there.

I wouldn't go for the 2080S personally, especially if you have an eye on the new GPUs (possibly out in September/October...will likely be an official announcement towards the beggining of September)

Must’ve been a glitch. I’m showing it in stock now!

Ok I will hang on and stick with the 2070. Thank you all for your help! Now the waiting begins.

Kind regards,

Jordan

Just to confirm FS2020 is going to be heavily optimised for AMD CPU's as it's on both the upcoming XBox and PlayStation 5 which are both AMD CPU's.

And also 3000 series nvidia GPU's and Big Navi AMD GPU's are all set for release around September.

Hey peeps,

So I decided to wait it out for the RTX 3000 series and boy I’m glad I did. Once able I’m going to order this spec with the RTX3080.

My questions are as followed.

• Will I need a bigger PSU?
• Is it worth buying this monitor or considering 4K with the RTX3080? I know MFS2020 isn’t strong on FPS with 4K.

Really exciting times this month! I’ll be pressing F5 for the next few days/weeks 😃

Kind regards,

Jordan

I would probably opt for the 3070 to be honest, save some cash. The 3080 is going to be completely wasted on FS2020 as you're going to be CPU limited (as with all simulators). The 3080, if initial specs and comments are to be believed, is no doubt a 4k GPU. It should be reserved for high end VR and high end 4k. FS2020 will smash 4k without any issues if you've got the CPU for it :D

Awesome, thanks for the reply!

So stick with the Ryzen 7 3800XT or consider a bigger CPU?

And 750WPSU will be enough for the RTX3070/80?

Jordan

The PSU will be fine for either. If opting for the 3080 it comes with an adapter to combine 2x 8pins to the 12 pin required. The 2070 I believe is still 8 pin (or dual).

With the CPU I would potentially opt for the 3900XT. Another angle to consider is to get the 3800XT, see how it fairs and then stick in the 4900X (5900X) next year. Looks to be a beast of a chip.

Hi Scott,

I’m about to put my order through with initially no graphics card and will amend next Thursday for the RTX 3080.

In terms of motherboard would you recommend upgrading to the ROG STRIX X570-F or stick with the TUF Gaming B550?

For the 3900XT is the cooling in the above build suitable?

I was going to get a bigger case as well.

Kind regards,

Jordan

Is there a 4K monitor you would recommend? Only reason why I want to get the RTX 3080 is purely for a one stop shop. I’m sure that card will last me a long time. Also, I’ll be taking advantage of VR once released for MFS2020.

I still think you're over-shooting but it's your money. Like I say, contextually, it's like buying a 2080Ti.... which right now is as good as there is for VR and for 4k. It's the current one stop shop and equivalent to the 3070. The 3080 is another level again and I understand that if money isn't an issue it's a fair choice, but the money saved could be put towards the next iteration again..... or an even better monitor.

What is your budget for the monitor? To make it worthwhile you're looking at 4k HDR 144hz IMO. You could also look at Super Ultrawide if that's going to be in budget. IMO that would be far better for flight sims and the likes.

As a small a-side, which VR headset is it you have?

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply.

I’m happy spending around £500/600 though just browsing there aren’t that many monitors at that price with the above spec. Which therefore means if there isn’t a monitor within the budget then the RTX 3070 will be the one.

I’m not overly sure which headset, one which will be compatible with MFS2020.

Kind regards,

Hey peeps,

Sorry to bother you again.

So I've been researching and I will be purchasing an ultra wide monitor (1440p, 144hz) with the prospect once I've saved again for a a 4k ultra wide in the future. I will aim to purchase the RTX3080 tomorrow but failing that, I will either purchase separately or proceed with the RTX3070.

Below is the spec I have tweaked from the initial one from Scott back in July:

If you’ve got the funds, add an extra Samsung 970 M.2, the 500GB one. Then ask PCS to put the OS on that drive. This means that you can use the 1TB exclusively for your games and you won’t have to download them all over again if you need to do a clean install of Windows at any point. It’s a bit of a luxury but worth doing 👍

I would try for a 3080 if you can, MSFS will make use of it.

Are you thinking of Super Ultrawide? For ultrawide 1440p at 144hz I think the 3070 would be more than enough. It's a 4K card for most games and FS2020 is most likely going to be CPU limited even going forward. I think my 2080 (non super) could drive an ultrawide with FS2020 to be honest. 3070 would make my PC look slow :D
