We won't ship by Royal Mail. Yes, £1 is cheap but what happens when it gets lost? Who covers the bill for replacements...?

Grinder - we will look into the errors on the upgrade system for your order. Looks like a teething problem to me...

I can understand that, although you could send via recorded, so you still get a signature. But I wouldn't know of the pricing, so it would probably be more cost effective to stick with the courier.

perhaps royal mail for really cheap things like a memory card reader (I paid £5 i think) but anything more than that should be a courier

I think PCSs issue will be that even for cheap stuff, if it goes missing, its still something that is lost and may be crucial to a valued customer.

At least with a contract with a courier they have some measure of control or at least an ability to find out (which you wouldnt necessarily get through RMG)

Also, might be easier and cheaper for PCS to do it all through one service and not chop and change according to its (monetary) value :)

Then it could be left up to the customer on which they choose, if they need it urgently then they will pay extra for courier, if not then use royal mail

Grinder - I can confirm that the bug with the upgrade system affecting your order has now been fixed. :)

If anybody else experiences any problems or thinks the system is not quite offering the right choices, please let us know and we will look into these asap.

I take it a system from 4 years ago is not covered? Because I took a look out of interest, and it says I don't have any orders which qualify for this service.

I suspect there comes a point where nothing that PCS sells could be fitted into your old PC, so I suspect that they do have a cut off date for upgrades, but this is speculation on my part.

For example I was taking apart an old PC over the weekend (probably about 7-8 years old, not sure), the graphics card used an AGP port and the harddrives and optical drives all used IDE conenctions, consequently there would be very little I could add to this system at all since those connections are no long used (nor have been for a while) on modern systems.

Unfortunately very old orders are not covered, we try to offer support for as long as possible but there comes a time when it is not worth upgrading an older generation computer any further.

Fair enough, thought that might be the case, but no harm in asking.

Is there actually a set cut off age? My current one is 4 years, so is that considered end of life? I ask, because I may be getting a new system shortly, and want to know how long it will be covered by this service.

There is not a set cut-off age, it all depends on how long we can source components for. Could you let me know your first name, assuming your surname starts with "N" and I'll look up your order for you to see why it's not available to be upgraded?

Hey there pcs, longtime lurker here. Been a big fan of PC specialist and your quality PCs that I've seen toted around by my friends. SO without much avail I'm deciding on a system spec now :) But my brother has a Clevo P150HM from the now defunct Kobalt Computers ltd and I was wondering since the builds are virtually identical, if you could perform the upgrades on my behalf? I've no problem installing them myself it's just sourcing the parts which is quite annoying for me. There's a seller on ebay called upgrademonkey and the parts look genuine as does his rep (i think) but I'm leaning more towards actually having my own build first so i can tinker and learn its faults before I start putting upgrade money on the table.

i was wondering, would you be able to install something to stop dust getting into my system? i would obviously be upgrading something aswell lol, thinking of getting an SSD put in but i would really like some dust protection.

i looked inside a few weeks ago and.... WOW the dust in there is immense, think the big fan on side has a downside lol. would have loved to change the case though.

This isn't available to all customers though, so a customer like myself can't benefit from this option.

Not too happy about that.
