Pcspecialist Nova: Use of In-Build micro

Yeah, they don't have mic.
I'm getting weird responses from PCS, now they were telling me that the problem is probably due to me using cheap android earphones, like...what the hell?
Just to triple check, can you take a photo of the 3.5mm jack and upload it? Needs to be quite close up so can see the pin rings

No, I'm sorry, but whoever that is, they're either struggling with basic english or they don't have any idea what you're saying, but I understood it perfectly, again, it's not something you're doing wrong.

Hes thinking that you're saying the mic on the headphones isn't working when plugged in, he's not understanding that you mean the inbuilt mic on the laptop is stopping when inserting normal headphones.

I'm glad its not just me, I was having a tough time reading those responses!
Had to read twice to piece together the sentences.

It doesn't have a microphone. And I can use them in my other laptop, and use at the same time the in-build micro.
But it’s got 3 pins which makes sense as to why the laptop thinks it has a mic and so is disabling the on board mic.

That’s working as expected.

Almost all Sony’s look alike, but they all have different specs.

Those do have a mic, I guarantee it.

Oh, ok, thank you so much!

Is there any way to force the laptop to use the in-build micro?
You can still use the headphones and the laptop onboard mic, you'd just have to swap the mic output in sound settings. Or at least I think you can do that, it may not allow you to set them.

But it will default to the headphone microphone by default by design, that's completely normal.

3 pins is just speakers - left, right and ground

4 is for a mic

Hang on... surely the attached photo of a white plug is 3 pin (3 stripes)? These cut the onboard microphone as expected (and include an inline microphone). Whereas the photo of the black plug is 2 pin. However, these are cutting my microphone as well. As do all of my regular 2 pin headphone plugs from a variety of manufacturers including Sennheiser and Sony. Even using headphone splitters does the same! Edit - it looks from Tony's image that I'm confusing stripes and pins but I think I'm still correct.

Does anyone mind if I delete the last spate of madness I've been talking? There's a certain amount of shame attached to it.

I've gone to sound settings » input but I can only find theree «Microphone(R)Audio»

You can delete it, but it's okay...Everyone can see that you are just being as helpful as you can!
Ignore all that last bit, the headphones don’t have a mic and the issue is definitely as we first thought.

I’m gonna take this cue and go have a nap :)

Hi Paulo,

Thanks for letting me know, I have been informed that the microphone is hard wired to pass through the headset jack when headphones are plugged in. There is no way around this apart from using a USB mic or a headset with a built in microphone.
