Planning to upgrade an Optimus II

Hello there!
I have had this laptop for almost 2 years now and It's starting to show its age in gaming and speed in general.
I know that I cannot upgrade the GPU, but I can add 4GB more ram and an SSD.
Now here's a few things I am unsure about.
RAM - I ran the crucial scanner and it told me that I can add 4GB more RAM to my current 4GB. Now, if I do buy the RAM that Crucial suggests and says it is compatible, will it work with the 4GB thats in my laptop at the moment? The RAM specifications are the same, but I am guessing they are from different manufacturers so would that be a problem?
SSD - I currently have a 500GB HDD and would like to install an SSD to have windows and a few games installed on it. Would this be possible by removing the DVD drive and installing the SSD in its place?

My current specs:
Optimus II: 17.3" Full HD LED Backlit Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-2630QM (2.00GHz) 6MB Cache
4GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (1 x 4GB)
nVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M - 2GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
500GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD5000BEKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
8x SATA DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW)

Thanks in advance!
