Please advise on these specs

Below is the system I wish to purchase - its my early retirement present after been made redundant. I am going to use the PC for Desktop Publishing,, Image and Photo editing, Video editing, some programming and of course Gaming.

When i went to purchase the machine I had selected Corsair fans but the system check said no fans were needed - does the water cooling I selected already come with fans? If so how many?

Also could someone recommend a good monitor 27" to 33" under the £1000 pound price tag ideally 120hz or better frequency with good colour gamut?

Your help would and suggestions would be appreciated.

I really wouldn’t order this for a few reasons:

there’s no real benefit to overclocking Ryzen. The way Ryzen are made is with some higher binned cores and lower binned. Ryzen actually automatically overclocks to peak performance on the cores that can take it and will reach much higher peaks like this. An overclock will overclock all cores to the weakest core which will be well under boost clocks. So in multithreaded loads, you may see an increase of around 10%, but in single core use, you’ll see quite a major decrease in performance. If you were only using it for video editing, then perhaps it’s worth it, but given your multi use, I would say it would perform better overall NOT being overclocked.

Ryzen is a totally different design to Intel when it comes to overclocking.

A custom loop build doesn’t really make any sense these days, closed loops are so efficient, it’s kind of made custom loops extremely expensive and not offering any particular benefit, especially on an AMD build for the reasons above. Also, GPU’s no longer overclock the way they used to either so there’s rarely any benefit to overclocking them as they’re so efficient with their automatic boosts.

What’s your max budget for the build alone?

Thanks for the reply - so a standard 3950X build with AIO cooler with no overclock and aircooled graphic card. So no need for Lian Li case then - something like a coolermaster 570X should do.

Total budget is £5000.

Yeah, I'd suggest so. I know closed loop builds were the epitomy of power for a very long time but they're not so relevant anymore.

If you put together a normal build, and post it we can tweak it if necessary. At your budget, any case is going to be superb, anything over around £100 is very thermally efficient, it's only the lower end ones that often trade looks for performance.

How about this?

Couple of notes added below, but it's a stonking build. This configuration will actually outperform the previous one by quite some margin.

Case
COOLERMASTER MASTERCASE H500M GAMING CASE Great case
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16 Core CPU (3.5GHz-4.7GHz/73MB CACHE/AM4) Absolute monster!!!
Motherboard
ASUS® CROSSHAIR VIII HERO (DDR4, PCIe 4.0, CrossFireX/SLI) - RGB Ready! Normally wouldn't suggest this board, but I think for this CPU the benefits of such a high end board will be used, namely the VRM cooling which is all important for high end Ryzen
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 3200MHz (4 x 8GB) Perfect RAM
Graphics Card
11GB ASUS ROG STRIX GEFORCE RTX 2080 Ti - HDMI, DP I woudn't suggest the Asus personally, it's ludicrously expensive for literally nothing other than brandname, I'd just go with stock.
1st Storage Drive
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA 120 2.5" SSD, (upto 560MB/sR | 540MB/sW)
2nd Storage Drive
4TB SEAGATE IRONWOLF PRO 3.5", 7200 RPM 128MB CACHE
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 4400MB/W)
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive

Power Supply
CORSAIR 750W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Definitely worth getting the superior RMx range.
Power Cable
1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
Corsair H100i RGB PLATINUM Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler You'll need the H115i Platinum on this chip
Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND The cooler comes pre applied with high quality thermal paste, no need for this
LED Lighting
2x 50cm RGB LED Strip
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking
WIRELESS INTEL® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 2,400Mbps/5GHz, 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD + BT 5.0

Operating System
Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence [MUP-00003] Do you need professional? It's not like previous version where it added loads of features, the only thing it adds is the ability to connect to a domain.

As for monitors, there's a good thread here:

For gaming and productivity, I'd suggest a 1440p 100 or 120Hz Ultrawide which is 2 x 1440p horizontally and 1 x 1440 vertically, it's just like having 2 screens with zero bezel in the middle.

The other option is 4k 144Hz, but personally I think 1440p Ultrawide is actually a better experience all round.

Some examples of the top ultrawides:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Curved-PG348Q-3440x1440-monitor/dp/B01A9EN4YU - 100Hz @£850

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076PTMVJ8/ref=psdc_428652031_t1_B01A9EN4YU - 120Hz @£1025

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078JB4291/ref=psdc_428652031_t2_B076PTMVJ8 -100Hz @£890

Just confirming that I placed my order and paid by debit card - also added 3 years protection insurance for peace of mind.

To Spydertracks, many thanks for your assistance and hopefully my review and pictures will be on the forum in four to five week.

Regards Mac

That's an insane build, the stuff of dreams to be honest.

The only thing I would have suggested would have been a 2nd M2 drive over the SSD. Slight niggle for me as I would want the fastest storage available at this budget.

I doubt it's going to be a slouch regardless though :D

Thank you for your suggestion - its cost me a further £156 pounds;)

Drives are as now:
1st Storage Drive
4TB SEAGATE IRONWOLF PRO 3.5", 7200 RPM 128MB CACHE
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 4400MB/W)
2nd M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 4400MB/W)

This PC will last me years and your right about the speed. The ironwolf is backup and archive and with the data recovery adds extra security.

Regards and best wishes AND no more suggestions please.

In fairness you could drop the motherboard to the Strix and not be any worse off but it's a bit like throwing a deckchair off the titanic.

Your build with a 500D SE gaming case would be my dream rig.

Yes I considered the 500D SE but preferred the extra flow of the two 200mm fan with the Mesh front.

Again, thanks to all and no more suggestions - it will cost me money!!!!!!! ;)

Not sure if you're thinking of the right case? The 500D SE has 3 fans on the front as standard and another 2 (I think) for exhaust. That plus the H115i Platinum should see enough airflow for any case :D

I checked the specs and the 2 X 200mm fans on the front of the H500M does push more air than the 3 X 120mm fans on the 500D SE - whilst doing the research I found that the 4 USB on the front panel needed 2 headers or a splitter and that he RGB fans on the front are connected to the reset button and independent of the Coolermaster RGB controller.

Since I am using Corsair RGB Memory - Corsair 115I RGB Plantinum AIO - and RGB strips, I conjectured that the 3 Corsair RGB fans and Commander Pro that comes with the case using the ICUE software would be better suited to manage the forementioned corsair RGB equipment.
Consequently I have swapped to the Obsidian 500D SE case saving £8.00 and purchased a Corsair LL 120mm RGB fan for £17 for the back plate which give on overall increase of £9.

Again many thanks for helping me build my dream machine - BUT please no more suggestions as its costing me money. ;)

Regards to Spydertracks and Scott in assistance with this build.
