Power issues after power cut

Hello,

We recently had a power ct which included at least 2 loss of power to the entire house (and I didn;t tuen my PC off after the first one). My computer was on for the first loss of power.

Now we have power again, my system does not power up.

Then the PSU is conencted and switched on I see Red LED's on the mother board, but no fans etc. Pressing the power switch does nothing.

My observation is:
Fuse is OK.
Lead is ok
switch on PSU is working.
No visible trip or fuse on PSU.
Power is leaving the PSU (by at least 1 connection).
No sign of burn out components etc on the board.

At the moment I'm thinking either
1) switch on the case is not working.
2) PSU has a really odd issue.
3) Something expensive on the motherboard.

Any advice appreciated

Neil

Do you not use a surge protector? If not, it could be PSU, motherboard or CPU or all 3, a surge could fry the whole power rail. You absolutely MUST use a surge protector on any PC equipment to avoid this.

But if the lights on the board are on, then it suggests the 24pin motherboard lead is getting power ok, but not booting would point to the 8pin CPU line.

There is a surge protector built into the extension lead the computer is attached to, but possibly worth my upgrading it once this is resolved.

I'll pull the PSU and see if I can check it using a multimeter.

After that I think it's a case of backing up the data and finding some more skilled than I am...
