Pre-purchase advice on gaming/workstation pc build

I just put this together trying to use some info from these forums and I would really like some advice. I know basically nothing so please let me know if I've made any mistakes. Preferably I would also like to bring the price down slightly, atleast below £2000 but if it needs to be higher then so be it.
Some things to note:
  1. I already have a 1tb m.2 ssd in my old laptop that I would install as a secondary storage drive (so I can probably change the 1st storage drive)
  2. I dont have a monitor yet, but it will atleast be 1080p 144hz (and as a secondary enquiry is it worth getting an IPS monitor?)

Heya! For this sort of build you'd be looking at 1440p 144hz instead of 1080p 144hz with the GPU you've selected, so what is your budget for the monitor? It might be that we section of a bit of the budget to put towards a better monitor.

Also you mention workstation, what sort of work will it be used for? Photo or video editing, programming, machine learning? Or will it just be the standard Microsoft office, emails and Zoom calls?

Once we have this info we'd be happy to give it an optimisation!

I wouldnt want to spend over £200 on the monitor considering I'd also be taking the opportunity to get a new desk, keyboard and mouse.
I am a fine art student so in terms of workstation usage I would be doing photo/video editing, potentially 3D modelling (and really anything else in a similar vein that I get a chance to do)

This is a rebalanced version of your build that would work with a 1440p monitor . I am assuming you will add the M.2 SSD from your laptop and you could save more money by transferring the Windows licence.

Would you have any recommendations for a 1440p 144hz monitor? I get that £200 is not realistic at all but preferably one that isn't incredibly expensive

Looks like a solid AMD spec from @Bigfoot above. If you wanted to get the price down a bit more you could go for the STRIX B550 then add an AX200 WiFi card (if you need WiFi) then a slightly cheaper Firecuda 520 SSD, although the 980 Pro is a really solid choice.

On the Intel side, you'd be looking at something like this which would outperfom the 5800X and come out a bit less expensive. With this extra cash, you could put this towards a better monitor. The Gigabyte M27Q is probably the best choice for your uses, although it's a bit expensive at the moment (should be about £300). There's also the Dell S2721DGF which is a decent choice at just over £300. Then there's the ASUS VG27AQ which is still at the price it should be and should give you a PC and monitor within your £2200 budget for both

Intel® Core™ i7 12-Core Processor i7-12700KF (3.6GHz) 25MB Cache Great CPU from the Intel 12th gen lineup. The F SKU just removes the onboard graphics which you won't need
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready ample motherboard for the 12700K
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 16GB) Removing the RGB saves a bit of cash, can be added back if desired
Graphics Card
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti - HDMI, DP, LHR

500GB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 5000MB/R, 2500MB/W) Still incredibly quick SSD

Processor Cooling
Corsair iCUE H150i RGB PRO XT Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Larger cooler for the hotter 12700K. If you'd like RGB flare, you could opt for the Capellix for a bit more cash
