actually looking at the table I can see everton surviving, luton, sheffeld united and burnley are worse without the points deduction

I'm thinking that myself. Also, our run in at the end of the season is mostly fairly kind:

Those last 9 games, a possible 27 points on offer. I think you could easily make a case for Everton getting 15 or 16 points there which is well above relegation form in any season, and certainly in this one!
