I've been advised there is likely a 3-4 week delay due to the RTX3080 situation, with that in mind I note that AMD are due to release their new Zen3 Ryzen processors on October 8th, does this mean the Ryzen 3's will be discounted? How quickly does PCS adjust their prices to suit?

Also can anyone see any issues with my build? I want something that is future proof, I'm currently running a (PC Specialist built) AMD FX9590 Octocore which I have had to underclock back to 4.7GHZ to have it reliably run Windows 10 (it freezes, well documented online, since underclocking, no more freezes!)
Graphics wise I am running a 4GB Radeon R9 270x, it's dated but still runs whatever i throw at it.
I've recently got into streaming and intend to stream multiple AAA and niche games via Twitch.

Hi Nursemorph,

Thanks for the response, I made some changes but have ordered the new setup so no need to adjust the quote.
I went for the Ryzen 9 3950X 16 core over the 3900XT. The core count is important to me for future proofing, my octocore has stood the test of time and even today it can give some processors a run for their money.

I did change the HDD though, I've decided to go for a M.2 SSD as my primary with a 4TB mechanical for data storage (this setup has proven to be effective for me in the past).
Power supply wise... I toggled between the RMX and TXm series but ultimate I don't see a massive difference between the two, it's likely that I might add additional SSD's or HDD later on and I know PC Specialist are really good for including extra cables as part of their welcome packs (this isn't my first order with them).

The other big change I made is I 'downgraded' the cooling to a Noctua NH-U14S, I have a Corsair H80I in my current build so to me this seemed backwards at first but after watching multiple videos on the subject it seems that Noctua are both quiet and have actually run cooler than a water cooled AIO, I also think that removing the point of failure of the water coolers pump (changing a fan is alot cheaper than having to buy an AIO) is more cost efficient.

My pc is still in pre-processing though (probably because I've ordered a Rog Strix RTX3080) but I'm trying my hardest not to amend the order... :D

The noctua won't be able to cool the 3950x enough, you won't reach boost clocks, you HAVE to have an AIO on that chip. But there's no benefit to that CPU for your uses, it's completely overboard. The 3900x would be far better and still overboard.

The PSU isn't enough, you'd need an 850W as an absolute minimum. The RMx is semi passive so operates a lot quieter as fans only come on when under extreme load. It's worth it on a build of this calibre.

I'm not convinced overall, it needs a lot of tweaking to be optimum, you've got a long way to go.

I had an 850W PSU selected but PCS warned me it was overkill because the max power rating with a 20% buffer was 690W
TBH I am still debating between the 3900XT over the 3950X from what I'm seeing the performance is on par but I can make all of the changes you talk about here and actually get money back.

New setup:
Ryzen 9 3900XT 12 Core CPU
Corsair H115I RGB Platinum Cooler
Corsair 850w RMX Series PSU

2 Additional questions:
Is the H115I the best AIO to go for or would any of the others be worth considering?
Also, as I'll be saving some money... would it be worth upgrading to 32GB ram? I do some video editing occasionally and like to multitask (multiple monitors) so don't want to max out 16gb.

On that processor, you need the H115i platinum as a minimum

Monitors don't require RAM, doesn't have any impact. But would be handy for video editing definitely.

If you've got some cash to play with, I'd consider upping the case quite a bit personally, those are pretty high end components and require something quite substantial.

Any recommendations for cases? I thought the Mastercooler H500 was quite a good one tbh. My only gripe with PCS is the case selection, the pictures aren't great and its hard to visualise the size.
Edit: Just noticed the H115i RGB is the only 'platinum' version, looks like that's staying then.

Didn't realise you were doing video editing, you may want to keep the 3950x in that case, although if you do, I'd suggest upping the mobo to the Crosshair VII as the VRM cooling is just that much better.

My usual go to's for cases would be the Corsair Crystal range, but they've all been removed, we do recommend them a lot!

There does seem to have been quite a few cases removed, I wouldn't be surprised if they're about to upload a load of new ones to the configurator.

With the current selection, the higher tier H500M case would be more suitable, or the slightly cheaper Corsair Obsidian, both excellent cases at this level.

Tbh at this stage its only light video editing, I'm the 'Pc Expert' of the family so get given the cameras, videos, dvds etc in order to rip and backup the footage, my Octocore managed so I'm sure the 12 core will be able to handle it.
The only other editing I'm hoping to do will be to Youtube once my gaming channel is underway, I have already done some test streams to twitch which didn't faze my current build so again, I'm not expecting this to be too taxing.

Now forgive me for being shallow here but the only Corsair Obsidian I can see available reminds me of a Dell Desktop, great if I wanted a sleeper build but this is a show pc.

Looking at the options I think a happy medium might be the COOLERMASTER MASTERCASE H500 ARGB GAMING CASE which is larger than the K500 I had selected previously so should be adequate for the components without needing to clear extra desk space to accomodate it.

Edit: Here are the size comparisons:

COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX K500 ARGB GAMING CASE (£64)
455 x 211 x 491 mm

COOLERMASTER MASTERCASE H500 ARGB GAMING CASE (£82)
502mm(H) x 228mm(W) x 525mm(L)

The 3900x is an extremely capable processor, both for streaming and video editing, if it's just casual editing, then you'll be fine, and for doing youtube/twitch stuff it would be more than enough also.

They don't have any available, that's what I meant, they used to have 3 tiers of the Crystal cases, but they've all been removed. The Crystal range are very high end and exceptionally beautiful. Not sure what you're looking at but there are no Crystal cases in the configurator.

This is my personal favorite as I like the 2 compartment design:

The H500 won't be enough, needs to be the H500M

Are you saying the case wouldn't be big enough to accomodate the components or airflow would be restricted?

How about the
CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 570X RGB GAMING CASE (£113)
512mm x 234mm x 480mm

Seems this is the only Crystal series in stock

Pretty sure the H500 and H500m are practically the same only differences being the top of the case and one has ARGB lighting?

The H500M is bigger by around 20-40mm

It's an airflow thing, you need premium airflow for these components, case is paramount to the build, the higher end you go, the more specified cooling you need in the case.

Where are you seeing that?

If you're looking at external sources then it does appear that the crystal range have been discontinued apart from the 570x which is a fairly mid range case, I wouldn't be happy with that at this level.

The obsidian or H500M would be my suggestions with what's in PCSpecialist stock, or if you're looking externally, my absolute utmost recommendation would always be Lian Li, they're the manufacturer to beat. The PC-011 Dynamic XL is a superb case:

Completely different cases, the H500M is a premium case, much much better than the H500.

It's on the selection for Corsair cases from PCS:
