Problem HDD and Recuva

I've used Recuva before and had good results.

I've used it again this weekend, this time on a clone of a problem HDD (non PCS system, a relative's) and have managed to get back nearly all of their files. Of course, this relative hasn't heard of backing up data.

I'm now running Recuva on the problem HDD itself and while it's taking much longer than the 2-3 hours it took on the clone, I don't think I can fault the % progress it has made already.

It's just doing a proper thorough job. 100% might be good enough for those other tools, but Recuva goes the extra mile. Or several miles apparently....

On a serious note that to me is a sign of a seriously mangled drive, well done you for having to good sense to clone it first.
