Proposed PC Build

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice, I'm looking at the below spec. After going through forums I have changed a few things, mainly if I'm getting a ultra PC should have the monitor for it, I'll still need to be able to use my 55in LED for when mates come over though. This mainly is going to be used to replace my Xbox one to play games on ultra for as long as possible and run emulators for all my favourite console classics, saves keep getting that N64/Dreamcast down from loft. It'll also be used to store movies, music, photo's e.t.c looking not to have to upgrade anything except for maybe graphics card in the near future. Price isn't an issue but wanted to make sure I'm not making any school boy errors. I chose the case as looks good, Mrs won't complain having it in the lounge, but mainly because of the 4 3.0 usb's for my Xbox one controllers, however the case doesn't allow for the more advanced cooling systems. I assume the case's own cooling systems will be enough?

Let me know what you think, any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

to play games on ultra at 4k you may be looking at SLI/2nd GPU. Are you planning to overclock your cpu? Mainly games?

Thanks for quick reply Keynes. No overclocking, I wouldn't know where to start to be honest. Yes mainly games, Titanfall, COD e.t.c. Should I keep the 780 Ti and get a lesser one for backup or should I get 2 gtx 770's?

With NVidia you can only add the same GPU. You can also downgrade the motherboard, ram and cpu since you are not planning to overclock your cpu. You could get the i7-4790 , Z97-A motherboard, 8gb ram at 1600mhz. With those savings you could try to add a 2nd GTX 780 ti but I would go with a 1440p monitor instead.

Thanks keynes, I've amended build. Before I order is there anything else you can see I've missed or any small improvements to be had? Hard to resist the monitor though, any reason not to go for the 4k except money?

if you can afford 2 x GTX 780 tis then it looks fine but I personally wait a bit longer for 4k. You may also want to check reviews online on how good the monitor you have chosen is.

I would still stick to 2560x1440p for gaming.
Even with this setup you are only likely to get playable framerates in SOME games on a 4k monitor. Like keynes said, might be better to wait a bit longer for 4k so that we have hardware that is capable of playing all games properly on it.

Depending on the game you can get perfectly acceptable framerates in 4K - however new games typically suffer unless you have exceptional hardware (and even then it still kinda suffers).

Other side of the coin is that you'll never get better than 60FPS (realistically, as the monitor will be 60Hz). But I've not had any issues with my display :)

You've got me boys, 2560 monitor but upgraded to the hyper x beast. Will be placing my order tonight, if ok looks sweet? :) Is below cooling enough too? I've been added things but left that the same.

Thanks for all your help

Hyper x beast is exactly the same, since latency is increased. I would get a 240gb SSD, because they are faster generally than a 480gb equivalent, and caviar black HDD.

Thanks, so 240GB ASUS® RAIDR Express PCIe SSD (upto 830MB/sR | 810MB with caviar black 3tb instead? Not too bothered with extra tb just can't get quick order on the standard 3tb

Yep lets hope so :) all ordered went 4tb caviar black in end, went fast track too so fingers crossed for weekend but most prob next week
