Upstream bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1696665
My Optimus laptop contains a useless nvidia 1050. The card was unsupported by nouveau, and the binary driver would cause boot to hang.
A recent update to Ubuntu Zesty has added nouveau support for this card. Unfortunately, it doesn't work at all, and makes matters much worse: The machine hangs before properly bringing up graphics.
The problematic upgrade raises the kernel version from 4.10.0-21 to 4.10.0-22.
Once the nouveau driver is blacklisted, the machine goes back to working mostly great on the intel drivers. And, that's fine so long as you only want to play Factorio. And, I mean, what else would you want?
