Query with Chrome

Hi,

New to PCSpecialist so not even sure if this is the right place to be asking this. Here goes... :)

Purchased a new laptop with Windows10 and downloaded Chrome. I want to transfer my current Chrome profile, all bookmarks history etc from the old laptop to the new one. When I sign in with my account on the new laptop and activate synching, something completely different appears. I am assuming the reason to be that I don't have synching set on the old laptop and what I am getting is something from years ago.

My query: if I activate syching now on the old laptop how do I stop all of the old stuff being mixed with the new stuff (the stuff that I want)?

Is the solution, to create a new account on the old laptop and then somehow, copy everything to this and then sign in with this new account on the new laptop?

TIA

I've never had that problem, but would imagine that if you sign in on the laptop your account should start to sync. I don't think it'll overwrite anything it'll just sync up both the laptop account and the PC account.

You need to log in to Chrome on your older device, click on the sync bit chrome and google.

it needs to be turned on

Then look at Manage what you sync, select what you want sync‘d.

There is also an option to review your Sync’d data.

Make sure it is actually the exact same account.

MAKE SURE CHROME IS AT THE LATEST PATCH LEVELS IT HAS BEEN HIGHLY VULNERABLE AND IS A HUGE TARGET AT MOMENT.

Basically use Chrome at your own Risk, The number of patches for vulnerabilities released last month or so has been crazy.

What would you suggest as an alternative? I'd assume it would be the latest version as I'd only just downloaded it, unless you're talking about the one on the older machine?

My worry is in how the things synch together. If I access the account from two machines and then 'synch' does it simply add everything to the cloud copy that it new and ignore any duplicates based on name and date etc?

If I was for example, to delete the cloud version (everything on one machine and then synch it) then when I log in from the other machine, does it take the cloud version as being correct and therefore delete everything on the second machine or, does it always try to add data to the cloud version?

So confusing :-(

I would use Firefox owr one of its forks such as waterfox, mozilla sync is wonderful, I've got waterfox on PC & laptop & firefox on my phone and they all sync up wonderfully without any security issues like the browsers phoning home
