Question about Network facilities.

Hi. I'm think about buying a computer from you, but as my current system is 12 years old (Yes - don't laugh, I'm still running Win ME), I'm a bit out of touch.

For example, what range does this cover?
WIRELESS 802.11N 300MBPS PCI EXPRESS CARD

Is your ADSL2+ router backwards compatible with a standard ADSL line
(my exchange will be upgraded in January)? Does it have an ethernet port? Do you provide microfilters?

Sorry if these questions make me sound like a noob. I'm just finding it very confusing.
Up until now, I've had a very bad wired connection so I'm hoping going wireless with a computer made this century will see some improvement.

Wireless range is really down to environmental features. The typical wireless signal can travel around 50m in the real world, subtract 10m for each wall it has to go through.

The router is compatible with ADSL and comes with a micro filter, the router also has a 4 port switch.

Questions relating to networking: I just upgraded my PCS order from the standard LAN port, to the Solwise 2 x Home Plug 200Mbps. I have an existing homeplug device but it's a few years old and won't support HD streaming (I presume). Will the Solwise be compatible with my old router, a Netgear DG834G ? Or do I need a new one.

And as I have never tried HD networking before, do the Home Plugs require Ethernet cables from the plug to the receiving device and are the cables supplied?

They are compatible with all routers and should be able to stream HD content if your electric sockets do not have too much interference. (As far as I can remember)

Short ethernet cables are supplied.

HD will still play on a 54mbps homeplug, there's still enough bandwidth there, yes you dont want your plugs to be routing through a junction box in your house that feeds current off to a second part of your home for e.g, that kills the Broadband, but otherwise itll be fine!

Yes I understand that, so it needs to be on the same ring to work properly. And I read somewhere that you can deduct 10% for every wall the signal passes through, which is another consideration.

Mine will be a 200Mbps.

In my house I use homeplug, and have 3 computers connecting to my router via homeplug. All the sockets work well, but the homeplug goes from green to orange to red, depending on the connection strength.

When I first set it up, one of my sockets was orange, so I used a different socket to give me the best signal.
