The R9 M290X is pretty much a rebadged HD 8970M, which itself is a powerful mobile GPU. It has an 850MHz engine clockspeed (up to 900MHz with boost), 1,280 stream processors, 80 texture units, 128 Z/Stencil ROP units, 32 color ROP units, and 2GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1,200MHz on a 256-bit bus.

As for the R9 M290X, that puppy's specifications match those of the Radeon HD 8970M pretty much to a tee. The core and memory clock speeds are identical, as are the unit counts and memory interface widths. The Radeon HD 8970M came out last May; it was a quicker version of the Radeon HD 7970M, itself a 2011 product, with a 50MHz higher Boost clock speed.

hope this helps
