Ram for Recoil 4 15''

Hi!

I have recently ordered a Recoil 4 with a 2 x 8 GB 2666 Mhz Ram setup.
But I was wondering ifi it's worthwhile to go for a faster Ram.

I don't think PCS is offering one in their customisation option. Is that because it can't be supported ?

If it can be, is it worth going for a faster ram ?

I mostly want to use it for gaming. Might try streaming as well in the future.
Thanks,
Sodhi

According to the configuration, PCS are only offering the 2666 MHz ram for this laptop, not sure if it's a limitation of the motherboard or just that PCS haven't got it available against your chassis. It might be worth ringing them up to ask if the higher speed ram is available??

ok.

Just got off the call with someone from PCS.

They said that, theoretically a 3K or 3200 MHz should work with the given chassis and mobo, but they can't guarantee that as they haven't tested it themselves. Also, he said that they don't sell any RAM faster than 2666 MHz and can't t give a system without any RAM sticks.

So I guess, I'm going to just stick to my current config as it's already building.

What d y'all think? Would the 16 GB 2666 MHz setup work for me for atleast 3 years given my gaming (+ streaming) usecase ?

2666 MHz would be ok i guess. but please wait for one of the experts like @Scott or @SpyderTracks before you buy this rig. Wouldn't want you to buy it and then feel miffed if you have received dodgy advice. Unless my laptop is running desktop RAM (it's running a desktop CPU so it might be) then but i am sure there is RAM that runs faster than 2666 in a laptop.

Laptop and configuration looks excellent. The only change I would make would be the M2 drive. Either bump it up to the Evo or lower it to the PCS 1TB option. The 660p is not good value at all.

@Scott I seem to be saving only 4 quid with the PCS option, plus my laptop if already building. I think I'll stick with the Intel M2. Evo is too expensive for me unfortunately, I'll probably take a second evo when I choose to upgrade storage.

@Scott Do you think 16 gb 2666 Ram is ok for my gaming + streaming usecase ?
Thank you so much for your help!

It's not about the saving. The 660p isn't a good drive. It's obviously your decision though :)

Yes it'll be fine. It's about as good as it gets from here. Many systems run configs similar to that. My system has 2133 RAM for example. It runs fine, it would just be very slightly better with the 3000 option. You won't notice the difference, it could only really be measured by benchmarking.

If you wanted to air on the side of caution you could purchase 16GB of faster RAM from amazon or somewhere else and just go with the lowest 4GB offering in your build. Wouldn't work out too much more expensive I imagine.
