Recoil 15.6" Linux No Touchpad

I've tried everything I can think of on my own, and have gone through half a dozen Linux Distributions, including Ubuntu, Mint, Debian etc. For all of them, everything worked except the touchpad. No response at all. I've gone so far as to have a response from the manufacturer who told me it can't be done. This is basically my final shot at getting it to work. Does anyone know a way to get the touchpad to work on any linux distribution?

Not sure if the rest of the specs are relevant. PCSpecialist tech support could only help me so far as to tell me my computer was a Tongfang gm5tg7w.

Thanks, and I've got my fingers crossed.

Edit: The laptop is also running a Windows 10 operating system. The touchpad is fully functional when running Windows only.

Tongfang are not great but I have never had a laptop when the touchpad never worked. My first thought is have you run Windows on this, could it be a dodgy touchpad - that should have been checked at PCS but things come loose in transit.

Hey. Thanks for responding. Yes, I should have mentioned (and this is my fault) that I was dual-booting. The Windows 10 installation is fully functional, touchpad included. I'll update the main post to reflect this information.

Hi,

Could you please post the output of
Code:
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
? In particular see if the touchpad is listed there. I don't have the same system, but what you should expect to see is something similar to this:

Code:
I: Bus=0018 Vendor=093a Product=1336 Version=0100
N: Name="UNIW0001:00 093A:1336 Touchpad"
P: Phys=i2c-UNIW0001:00
S: Sysfs=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.0/i2c_designware.0/i2c-6/i2c-UNIW0001:00/0018:093A:1336.0001/input/input9
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=event7 mouse1
B: PROP=5
B: EV=1b
B: KEY=e420 10000 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=2e0800000000003
B: MSC=20

Also the output of:
Code:
xinput list

And the output of:
Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i libinput

Have you used the latest kernel version with any of the distros that you have tried?

It's possible that the touchpad hardware is not recognised as the chassis is quite new. That will be determined by the first command.

Did you end up getting the touchpad working? I'm thinking about ordering this laptop (with the AMD CPU), will be running Arch Linux (so latest kernels etc). It has been a while since I've bought a new laptop, I have a couple of questions about Linux on this unit:
  • Can you completely power down the Nvidia GPU?
  • How long does the battery last if you power down the GPU?
  • Is there a way to set the power mode in the BIOS (e.g. "silent", "quiet", "performance", "max" etc...)?
  • Does the palm rejecting work well with the touchpad? (Guess you need a working touchpad first).
  • How does the mechanical keyboard feel?
