Regarding static and unboxing

I have heard that static electricity can destroy PC components, but will unboxing the PC have this problem since it is built and inside the case? My entire house is carpeted so I don't know what would be the best way to avoid static.

Static is only really a problem if you are opening up the computer and working on it, for that I would certainly get a wrist band, they are not expensive and plug into a normal socket, although only the earth pin is metal. There are also anti-static mats that plug in the same way, I have one for my laptops, although I do build up a lot of static, the crackling when I take my jumper off could easily be mistaken for someone frying bacon :)

Unboxing will be fine even if you are one of the unfortunates who hold on to a static charge. The case acts as a Farady Cage and prevents any static discharge there might be from getting inside.
