REVIEW SPECS FOR LINUX LAPTOP

Hi All

I posted this under review my spec section but having found this linux area reposting here for advice!

I've put together 2 options for a laptop which I'm planning on running Manjaro on. Can you please advise if this would run well with this set up?

Will be used mainly for photo editing with a bit of video encoding.

Both options are based on AMD Ryzen 7, the 2nd slightly more expensive version has increased Ram (16GB 2133MHz to 16GB 2400MHz ) and HD (256GB PCS SSD to 250Gb Samsung SSD). Is this money well spent or would it be better spent elsewhere?

Should just stick to one thread, but here's my response from that thread too:

Sorry - I dont know anything about Linux, but questions/suggestions I would have are:

- why not an M2 faster drive than using the slower storage drive options?

- is 250gb actually enough for your needs?

- suggest silver warranty for a fiver as this covers return costs for a whole year not a month.

Thanks alot for your reply BHUNA50. and apologies for the mulithreads, I couldn't figure out how to move to get the linux experts advice!

I've swapped out the HD for an M2, this reduced the price slightly so I've also increased the RAM speed from 2400MHz to 2666MHz (is this worth while?)

I've got a couple TB external HD for storage, like hibernate functionality so will probably go with extended swap to allow this (around 30gb). Should only be storing any working files on the laptop so 250GB should be enough, however if the RAM update mentioned above will not give a significant boost then may drop that back down to 2400 and increase HD to 500gb.

If anyone could comment on how this would run with Linux (Manjaro) that would be really appreciated

Linux - LMDE (basically Debian) works well for me on a 8-Core model: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X [desktop]. Since all Linux's use different versions of the same kernel, I would expect Manjaro to be fine. I question your supposed reliance on swap though. It is unlikely that you need all 16GB for your proposed application.
