Liverpool is far from a royalist city (as demonstrated by Liverpool fan's booing of the anthem before various finals - Everton fans would likely do the same, but we never make it to finals), but I feel as though she was as humble and dedicated as anybody from the kind of background she had could be. She could easily have stepped back from public life at any time she chose, but carried on with her duties right until the end. Hearing God Save The King at the England games later in the month will feel fairly surreal.
The Lizmeister General has clocked off for the last time… and there’s up to three generations of people who will be getting the national anthem wrong for the foreseeable future 🫣

Glossed over as couldn't crush a grape nowadays, struggle enough fighting out of a parking spot. There's a cracking standup on that particular train of thought that I saw a few months back.
The town I am in is very Royalist, not my bag but, by the same token; I think she did a remarkable job in maintaining her dignity and respect through her entire reign. She has been someone to look up to, and even in this world of offence and finger pointing, she generally hasn't put a foot wrong. That has taken a gargantuan amount of patience, consideration and good old fashioned resilience that's missing in more recent generations (IMO).
She was the old school, I'm reminded of a lot of the traits I saw in my Grandparents.
Her passing is a reminder, to me, of what we are losing with that particular generation of humans. World beaters, War fighters, Poverty battlers....... but always, ALWAYS, dignified and without complaint.

I never met Her Majesty, but I did see her twice...
The first time was in 1957, when I was six years old. She came to Solihull to open a new factory at the Land Rover works. I remember working hard at school making a flag to wave. All the kids made their own flags - this was in the days before cheap plastic imports (often upside down!). Back then, if you wanted a flag to wave then you had to make it yourself. I was standing on the street close to the factory, along with every other schoolkid in Solihull, lining her route. As her car swept by she looked across, smiled and waved - right at me.
The second time was in 2004, when she came to Bournemouth, en route to opening the new RNLI training school at nearby Poole. I waited for hours to bag a good spot, and took the attached photo of her. Just after I'd snapped this picture she looked across, smiled and waved - right at me.
I think she remembered me.

She was an incredible lady and it feels like the nation has lost a beloved grandma. Her death affected me more than I thought it would, She was always there throughout my entire life, it feels very strange to be honest. She never put a foot wrong, God bless you your majesty and may you rest in peace.
