Its my first time buying a custom laptop or desktop. (Looking to buy a laptop). Is it possible jusst to turn the laptop on and start using it once the laptop that I ordered has been delivered?

That's correct, you'll be able to just press the power button on and go It will be like setting up a new laptop, so it will ask you to sign into Windows, connect your WiFi etc

If you order the laptop without the Windows key, you may need to reinstall Windows to install your own

A custom built laptop is, in many ways, like a custom built car - they're mainly aimed at enthusiasts. Just as car enthusiasts are prepared to take on a bit more regular maintenance than the average car buyer, so custom build laptop and PC buyers are generally prepared to take on a bit more regular computer maintenance than the average laptop or PC buyer.

That's not at all to say that the average user shouldn't buy a custom built laptop or PC, because they can and do. The main difference is that PCS custom built laptops and PCs do not come with a factory recovery partition and a 'fire and forget' mechanism to restore the laptop or PC to its factory installed condition. If you need to do a 'factory reset' on a PCS build you do a clean install of Windows from bootable media and then run Windows Update to install the necessary drivers, you may need to install some drivers manually. None of that is complicated nor difficult and we can walk you through the process quite easily if you're not already familiar with it.

The reason why PCS don't include a factory recovery partition is because there is no bloatware on a PCS build - only the software you request. Off-the-shelf laptops and PCs come with shed loads of bloatware - the laptop or PC vendor makes a lot of money from forcing on you all this software that you didn't ask for and almost certainly don't need. The 'fire and forget' factory reset using the factory reset partition is there so that when you do a factory reset you get all that unwanted bloatware that the vendor makes so much money from back again!

Oh, and on a PCS build they don't steal several megabytes of disk space from you to hold that recovery partition.....

But yeah its mainly that you can chose what components you want rather than get what someone though was a good idea for whatever at a certain point in time
