Saved Myself From a Costly Mistake!

I’ve asked for advice and have been very grateful to receive it. If in the end, I decide to act in a way not totally in accordance with that advice, it does necessarily make me foolish or rash. And even if you consider that I am making a mistake, there are ways to communicate that with becoming personal and disrespectful.

As for choosing a motherboard and being interested in how user friendly the bios is - these are relevant even if one is not overclocking.

do you know what the BIOS is? Why would you need it if you’re not overclocking?

This is going to sound rude but believe me it's not intended in that way, I just want to address what you are writing here. If you receive sound advice and don't follow it, that DOES make you foolish. In order not to be seen in such a way you would need to have logical thinking to come to a sound decision. There is no logic or reasoning to your decisions other than what you think..... but what you think is based on incorrect assumptions.

This entire thread has pointed out the mistakes you are making but you seem to think you know better, this is simply how it's coming across. We have tried numerous times to point out the flaws in your thinking but you again just think we are incorrect.

I've seen it numerous times on this forum. We genuinely want the best for you. We are enthusiasts who want the entire world to have the absolute best gaming experience they can possibly have. We can lead a horse to water, but we cannot make it drink.

Regardless of the very strange choices, the system will be very competent at what you require, so you don't need to worry in that regard. Our entire point is that you could have a far more sustainable eco system PC for less money than you are currently building.

With regards to the BIOS. It honestly won't make any odds. The Gigabyte is fine to navigate, it's just not the same as ASUS, hence why people like to compare them. I'm on the Aorus platform and it's what I would choose for the 9900K.

Thanks for your honesty, Scott. And I have perhaps been a bit foolish and accept I could have been more rational in my often impulsive choices.
The fact is I have suffered a very painful bereavement recently which has affected my ability to think logically. This is simply an explanation and not an attempt to garner pity.

Also appreciate your gracious response, Nursemorph - but although perhaps a bit unbalanced, I’m hoping that it will do the job!

Again SpyderTracks - I have valued your guidance on this matter; but I have to be frank in that when you ask: “Do you know what the Bios is?” - it does come across as a tad patronising and contemptuous.

I will admit that I did come across as a little harsh so for that I apologise...however, I stand by the overall gist of what I was saying and completely agree with everything @Scott said. Beyond that, I wish you luck with what looks like ending up as an over-priced and unbalanced build
Also appreciate in your advice regarding the motherboard! Which I hasten to add, I have taken!

It was based on the build you have specced, it suggests you don't know much about hardware so was a fairly reasonable question imho.

There are ways to communicate facts - e.g: that you are obviously more knowledgable than me about computer hardware, without doing so in a manner which seeks to put down the other.
I think it is important as a moderator to be mindful of the emotional impact of your responses - especially in these tragic and traumatic times. For example, someone could have lost a much loved brother who was very knowledgable about hardware and very skilful in installing it ... and so it really hits hard when others whose help you seek in this regard, are unkind and derisive.
But perhaps it is too much to ask that I should receive empathy and kindness on a computer forum! Especially when they don’t know my circumstances.

My point was not to upset you, the point is that a lot of us have tried to steer you to buying a build that makes sense, even if you were to stay on intel which is your choice. But the build you’ve configured just doesn’t make sense, but each time we’ve offered advice about components such as the RAM, PSU, CPU platform (ie defunct 9th gen vs 10th gen) etc, you’ve ignored us.

I’m not trying to make you feel unknowledgable, I’m just trying to get you the best value for your money which currently you’re wasting an awful lot of for zero gain.

But you’ve actively rejected our suggestions. If your brother used to give advice (and sorry for your loss) and he’s not available then let someone else advise.

Thank you for your condolences, SpyderTracks - but I’m hoping that what I’ve ordered (even if wasteful) will fulfil the intended function: to provide enjoyable distraction from the woes of this “vale of tears.” 🙏
P.S. That’s all I want really - even if the build is far from good value for the money.
P.P.S. So given that I’ve decided to stick with Intel 9900K, is there something that just doesn’t work or doesn’t preform optimally on this build apart from the fact that it is overkill (and is far more than is needed for gaming at1440p)?

Cancelled my intel order and decided to heed which way the wind is blowing!
Now I’ve got to make sure that I remain resolute and not switch again, come Hell or High water. This must be the 4th time I’ve changed my mind as whether to stick with Intel (tried and tested but at the end of the line and blighted with security issues) and take a leap of faith (after scouring dozens of forums and reading hundreds of reviews😏) and embrace the Red Devil !
And I realise you guys must be fed up with this long and boring drama.

Looks the part. Is the 3900X a stretch too far though? It's got a much higher peak frequency which will help considerably :)
Thanks Scott - at least I’ve got enough humility to admit I was wrong and you guys were right (based on everything I’ve watched and read - virtually unanimously backed the opinions of the moderators on this forum).

Did you notice the comment about the processor 3900x would make a lot more sense

Ach that's just the way it goes sometimes, due diligence is always a good thing :)

As above though, check out the 3900X over the 3900 for your uses.

Ok will do - thanks Spydertracks and Scott. Let me check out how much more it would be.
I see your point -changed it to the 3900x
Thanks again!

Excellent! That’s a far better overall build, will last a lot longer and be a better experience!
