It is not a gaming monitor (83 Khz) but needed something with a lot of screen real estate for my work and studies, it is nice to have a good load of open windows that can be looked at simultaneously and that seemed the best option then.

Serious question, how would one watch a movie on such screen? Would video content get stretched to fit full-screen or it would simply show up black bars on left/right side? (like we get with old TV content playing on widescreen displays)

I believe it would show black bars.

It would be down to the settings in your video player I believe. Just like if you play 4:3 content on a 1080p monitor, you can have it stretched or you can have black bars.
