Ok, after much deliberation, I've settled on my headphones and sound card.

I just need to check I haven't done anything stupid, and all will be compatible with my rig!

So the sound card is:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Xonar-D2X-XDT-Express/dp/B0011BC1FO

The headphones are:

http://en-uk.sennheiser.com/dj-headphones-noise-reduction-hifi-stereo-hd-25-1-ii

You might be thinking the headphones are an odd choice, but they will be used mostly for monitoring and video editing, I'm also out filming quite a lot.

The rig has a 650w Corsair Enthusiast series PSU. Will that be able to support it?

The rig is:

These are the slots I have available. I have a USB3 card in there atm, I could remove that if needed!

The GTX690 takes up the top one.

I'm still not sure what you mean? So out of shot? :/ Sorry... not done this before!

If you look at your gtx 690 in your motherboard there is a PCI express slot for you to connect your soundcard that is located just on top of the gpu (blue one)

It just seemed to fit the budget, support both 3.5mm and spdif ports and after looking at numerous others seemed to have pretty decent reviews. I really wanted a card that would make the most out of the headphones and the z5500 speakers. A nice birthday present from the other half. I don't think she appreciates it like I do, I had to remind her the present was for me not her...

It's been purchased now, hope I made the right choice. I'm still learning a lot. The next tricky part is fitting it. I've read a couple of places that you have to disable the on-board sound first as there has been a few problems!
