While the grass is always greener in a couple of years time, an upgrade now is still a huge upgrade over your old system. If you go to a 5800x build now it’ll be a massive upgrade over what you currently have. You’ll also be futureproofed to have a better CPU than current consoles, which have roughly equivalent to a 3700x. All in all, this means that for your uses you will be sorted for many years to come.

Also as an aside, I was perusing through Undertale videos last night and I think you came up on my recommended. Small world!

It's worth saying that a big upgrade like DDR5 can have very helpful consequences for those on a mid-range platform on the previous gen. In a couple of years, you might well be able to buy, say, a 5900X and 32GB of DDR4 RAM for fairly cheap as many of those on that tier will have moved to the new platform and will be selling off old parts.
