Hi all, would welcome your advice and feedback re this spec for a PC.
It will be used for 2D/3D animation by my son (large files, multiple apps at once and detailed graphics), general MS office use, surfing, and some gaming (not super heavy or much AAA).
Hes got a separate 4k 144hz monitor.
Spec based on requirements to a preferred max budget of £2000.
Do you think new spec up to the job? FYI, he's using a 5yr old ASUS ROG i7 laptop with 4 core and 16gb ram and a 9xx GPU at moment and it understandably struggles when using After Effects, Adobe suite and rendering

Heya! Is that monitor info correct? 4K 144hz is about as high end as you can get these days and those monitors retail for about £650+ at the moment. For a PC that is capable of CPU demanding tasks as well as gaming on that monitor will really take you over your budget, unless you sacrifice rather in one of the areas.
Just checked and his monitor is actually not quite as high spec its a AOC CQ32G1 32inch QHD, 144hz, 1ms, VA, AMD Freesync, (2560x1440 @144hz, 300cd/m²), he paid c.£300 about a year ago I think.
His gaming isn't super heavy on PC (mainly a PS4 and Switch).
Given that he's managed (ok barely) on his 5yr old ROG laptop till now 😁, i was sort of hoping this spec would smash it for a while at least.
I just stretched things a bit with this spwc for comparison which comes in c£2,300, slightly over budget but maybe worth it for the uplift, happy for thoughts.

Brilliant, that makes much more sense! Personally, I'd recommend going down the Intel route, their 12th gen CPU's are on a brand new platform and are currently the performance king. I've gone half way between the two budgets for now, I hope that's okay. If you'd like the equvalent AMD system specced up, just say, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Will the H150i fit in the roof of the 4000D or will PCS front mount it? I am more a fan of roof mounting than front mounting.
The H150i only fits front mounted in the 4000D needs to be 5000X for it to be roof mounted
Thanks guys, really appreciate the advice. I had originally specced the AMD as from my research it seemed to give fast clocking speeds (important for animation tasks) and run a little cooler (because he uses for work and play its on c. 12+ hrs per day often) than the Intel, didnt appreciate the i7 was later gen and maybe preferable. Good to know.
Re GPU, original plan was indeed Nvidia 3060 or 3060ti but chose the 3070ti based on availability at the moment (3060 pre order only) and also figured maybe bit more longevity b4 he wants to upgrade GPU or replaces monitor.
The suggested spec looks good to me, happy to take additional thoughts re the GPU and Processor.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the pre-order status of the cards. Once you order you're put into a queue for that card and as they recieve stock they'll allocate it to orders until they have enough to cover for your card, at which point you'll likely go into build as GPU's are the thing that's holding everything up right now. None of the cards have horrible waiting times (not compared to this time last year anyway) so going for a card that's in stock generally won't save you a tonne of time. Plus, the indicators show stock at present time and by the time you come to your build, they could be complety different!
The GPU is generally the first thing you change in the build as the technology advances so quickly so it's not really worth "futureproofing" with a GPU which I worry you're creeping into the realms of with a 3070TI- really the 3070 is the top card you'd want for 1440p 144hz.
Without spending crazy money the only option PCS really has is the Cooler Master TD500, it's a really solid case and would be one of my top 3 if Corsair didn't exist 😂 It's not guaranteed that the AIO will be top mounted in any case and it's quite a struggle with the TD500, especially with RGB RAM, but it certainly is possible. If you wanted to increase the likelihood of it you could always place the order then make a request for the AIO to be top mounted with their Live Chat team. Again, it's not a guarantee, but does increase the chances.

Sending in a 5000X is the other option, although PCS have it for such a great price, it's difficult to not take advantage of it (I think anyway). It's about £160 from other retailers so you'd be spending about £40 over the cost of what PCS has it for. The few options you have are
A) Contacting PCS and asking when it'll be back in stock, then waiting until it's back (providing it's not too long) and ordering
B) Ordering then contacting customer support and asking to custom request that case on your spec, meaning it won't be built until they have stock of that case
C) Ordering it from elsewhere and sending it in
D) Going for the TD500 and calling it a day
I guess it really depends how much you like the 5000X, if it's by far your favourite case and you're really sad it's gone, then I'd probably go for one of the top 3, if you'd just like a nice case, and you're not too fussed it's not a 5000X then I'd probably go with the bottom option- the TD500 still is a really solid case, plus it's about £50 less than the PCS price for the 5000X
I'll leave you with the difficult decision 😂

Fair 😂 They both have their advantages and disadvantages, it's just which one you'd prefer being better, at the end of the day, it wonn't have a huge effect and both are totally fine mounting options

The spec is pretty much locked down apart from the GPU, PCS have advised they're unsure when the 3060, 3060ti or 3070 are going to come in at the moment "could be 2 weeks to 2 months" which obviously has a big impact on when we get it. So, still contemplating the 3070ti but know its over specced not to mention £xxx more than the best fit option.
They are also negotiating with the supplier re more Corsair 5000x cases but I'm happy to order the TD500 and could swap if the 5000x arrives before build.

Hi again guys, well after an unavoidable delay he agreed spec and has the cash together (with a little help) to proceed but it seems neither the cooler master TD500 or Corsair 5000x cases as suggested aren't available at the moment. Could you recommend an alternative great (thats good for keeping cool) case that suits roughly the above spec (as per JUNIORS i7 post). If its £30-50 more so be it at this stage. Thanks again.
