Spec for first desktop for 13 year old.

I am looking to purchase a desktop for my son (13 years old) for Christmas. I don't know very much about computers, so grabbed the PCS spec that was recommend for Minecraft as that is what he wants to play on it. Can any components be swapped out so I get more 'bang for my buck', staying round about in the budget of £1K?

Use: School work (surfing the internet and suing MS Office) and playing Minecraft Java Edition. (All over WiFi.)
Budget: Around the £1K mark, this can be flexible if justified.
Monitor: As listed in the spec, happy to look at alternative recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

I reckon you can do much better for your money. Here's what I'd consider:

Case
CORSAIR 3000D AIRFLOW MID TOWER GAMING CASE Airflowier case, though less pretty
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Six Core CPU (3.5GHz-4.4GHz/35MB CACHE/AM4) Significantly better CPU
Motherboard

GIGABYTE B550M DS3H (mATX, DDR4, AM4, PCIe 4.0) Superior motherboard
Memory (RAM)

16GB PCS PRO DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB) Dual-channel memory
Graphics Card

8GB AMD RADEON™ RX 6600 - HDMI, DP - DX® 12 Much better than the 3050
1st M.2 SSD Drive

1TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 2950MB/sW) Better than a slow SSD and a hard drive
Power Supply

CORSAIR 650W CV SERIES™ CV-650 POWER SUPPLY I'd prefer the 750W, but not compatible with the motherboard (weirdly...)
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
PCS FrostFlow 100 V3 Series High Performance CPU Cooler Sufficient for the 5600
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT
Wireless Network Card
WIRELESS INTEL® Wi-Fi 6E AX210 2,400Mbps/5GHz, 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD + BT 5.0
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence [KK3-00027]

NO ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE
Browser
Microsoft® Edge
Monitor
ASUS TUF GAMING VG249Q1A 24" 24" is better for a 1080p/cheap monitor as it's higher pixel density
Keyboard & Mouse

Corsair Bundle - K55 RGB PRO Keyboard & M55 PRO Mouse Not sure I'd be spending £70 of a £1k budget on a keyboard and mouse, but quite a nice set
Warranty

3 Year Silver Warranty (1 Year Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour)

Had a look at the spec and have just one question which I would appreciate your thoughts on and any one else who has an opinion!

This system is for a 13 year old and like most 13 years olds, he likes the pretty lights, so I was wondering about the case. What are your thoughts on the Corsair ICUE 220T RGB Airflow case currently on special? If I swap it out on your spec, then it doesn't flag that there any problems or am I better off sticking with the Corsair 3000D and maybe adding a stripe of LED lights, which again the system doesn't flag up any problems. What do you think?

220T is fine at this level.

I agree the 220T is probably fine. The only thing I'd mention is that it's not the biggest case in the world so it may be limiting in terms of future upgrades. The 4000X is only £10 more and bigger, so it might be a good plan.

Alternatively, you might prefer a smaller case!

Right, there is always something to think about! Thanks again for all your help.
