A little help please

Hi all, time to change my old PCS desktop and get new, just need some basic advice. PC will mostly be for gaming with some office work. Any recommended builds for budget of 2500ish pounds. Games played, Total War series, WOT, Battlefield etc. Wont be upgrading monitor until xmas when i will get a decent 4k but will get pc built for new monitor. Thanks in advance for your help(y)

Thank you for that Nurse(y), do the 2080tis only support up to 60HZ 4k then? Do PCS have the 3080s in stock or is it a long lead time?

Hi all, when selecting drives required for build if I just put 1 tb ssd as this is all i will need into 1st storage drive and don't install any others will that drive be the boot drive for O/S and games etc? or do i need to install it in 1st M.2 SSD Drive ? (y)

You can select a single SATA SSD in the 1st Storage Drive slot and leave it at that. You don't have to install an M.2 SSD.

However, it would be wise for you to specify what you plan to use the PC for and what your budget is. It may be that a SATA SSD is not the best option for you. :)

Thanks Ubuysa, desktop for gaming, was going to wait for 3080 but can't wait that long unfortunately. Total war, wot, battlefield sort of games, and a small bit of office work. All i want is quick boot up of O/S and games and a decent FPS, quiet and cooled pc would be nice as mine is currently overheating as I type. Use clouds for all my pics etc so will only be storing O/S and games on whichever drive i pick.

Hi all, how does this spec look for total war games, WOT, buying with a view to upgrading next year, will be on 4k monitor by xmas. Thanks in advance for the help

Hey @Pvthubbard

What's your budget, how much did the above spec come to and what would you be planning on upgrading next year (seems a bit early?). If a GPU upgrade I'd consider a higher wattage PSU.

It would be helpful if you could include the link to reconfigure your spec also.

Thanks Streaky, Im now desparate for new system, no 3080s anywhere and no 2080s in stock. Upgrade would be a 3080 graphics card, budget up to 2k. I am currently cooling my pc with a desktop fan so not good for gaming. All i want is a quietish pc that stays cool whilst playing total war games and world of tanks. I know im doing it arse backwards but needs must :) .

It's a tricky one... the monitor you'll be looking at to get full use of the 3080 power will cost around a grand. What screen do you have now?

If you are planning to buy a 4k screen at Christmas, then buying a system with a 2070 Super in now is a waste as the GPU will need replacing as the 2070S is not a 4k GPU. Personally, I'd either wait till then (stock should be more plentiful hopefully) or just get a lower end GPU to tide you over, say the 1660 SUper or something...only 1080p but would be a lot cheaper

That's what I was thinking, if OP had enough expendable income, chuck something together with a decent PSU and base build in so he just has to upgrade monitor and GPU when the time comes. If he wants to game ASAP, that's looking like the way forward :) (y)

Thank you gents for your help, much appreciated. I Like the look of the above spec but dont think i need as much storage, would prefer 1 big SSD, would that be a problem? Wheres Steaky gone? :ROFLMAO:

Just bear in mind that if you’ve only got the one drive and you need to do a clean install on Windows, you’ll wipe everything. And that means losing all your saves and downloading many gigabytes of games again...
