Thanks for the guidance. I guess budget wise I am probably looking around 2K. I am wanting a gaming laptop that will last a few years and still be viable.
DDR5 isnt in the best place atm, its still very new and the latency on them means the gain over DDR4 is marginal even given the large frequency jump.
Ive looked through the laptops PCS currently have, and most seem to be 1080p screens and those that are 1440p seem to be very slim, ive always looked at gaming laptops in terms of thermals, and looked for a deeper case with good ventilation as they can get very warm.
Personally, i'd be hesitant to take any of the current offerings, the elimina (which has a decent depth to it and vents) is on a gen 11 intel cpu and only a 1080p screen, the others all seem very slim and 1080p monitors even though some can be configured with 3080 gpu's.
Theres been quite a few posts about how hot some of these laptops run (even though its just about in acceptable margins)
I would hold off until the new Ryzen cpus are released around autumn, and see what new builds PCS introduce, there seems to be this trend towards taking the slimmest cases for the more powerful laptop builds, which seems counter-intuitive to me.
If I were looking at a new laptop, i'd want a 1440p screen, a decent depth to the case and either 12th gen Intel or wait for the new 7000 series ryzen versions. I understand about specing as high a GPU as possible as you cant upgrade these with laptops but I dont get the logic of a 3080 Ti running a 1080p screen like they have on several builds. I also dont think the extra expense on DDR5 is worthwhile right now given the higher latency and theres no promise that newer iterations of the RAM (as frequency/latency improves) will be compatible with the motherboards currently on offer given how new it is.
