Hi All

Appreciate this comes up a fair bit but been spending sometime looking at custom-builds and even the Black Friday one's, deduced that because I cannot make amendments to the Black Friday deals I will not be going with those.

I need a desktop that is somewhat future-proof for the next few years. I don't have a monitor yet, I will get a monitor to fall in line with the card purchased as I recognise it's only as good as the monitor it is plugged into.

Would like to get beyond 1080p if possible but not wanting to spend a fortune, between £1500 - £2000. Planned to go down the AMD, route and I have read a number of the posts on here, especially the one's regarding Intel VS AMD, storage and so on.

Just looking for some recommendations from people that have experienced different desktops, I have been on a gaming laptop for the last few years. It's things like choosing between DDR4 or DDR5 capable motherboards is where I get stuck, is 16 cores really necessary etc, realistically is that going to be needed for a casual gamer such as myself.

No video processing or streaming, purely for casual gaming, on some AAA titles as well as Fortnite, FM24, GTA and so on. Could someone with far more knowledge and experience than I perhaps spec up a PC based on a casual gamer, with a budget of the above, to give me a rough idea of what is reasonable for the money?

Would the below be a good start?

Looking for 1440p if I can get it, to start moving away from 1080 not a dealbreaker but would be nice, as I said above, monitor will be purchased to fall in line with graphics card.

Can you include the configurable link at the bottom of the quote? The link you've given is just to the configurator page, not the actual configured system

Yeah that's just the PC, appreciate it thanks
So your build was pretty perfect aside from needing a higher GPU for 1440p really.

So just adjusted the storage simply to models that don't command the branding premium of Samsung but actually have higher endurance ratings, they're still exceptional drives, that then allows you to raise the GPU where you need it.

The other thing to point out is if you're retiring another system, you can legally transfer the windows license across to this build and save yourself some cash there, that is if it's a windows 10 or windows 11 license, the old free upgrade from windows 7 has been closed now.

But this is pretty much no holds barred, the 7800X3D is still the gaming processor, plus the B650 board will allow upgrades to future generations until sometime in 2025 (usually September) so that's likely another 2 generations at least (Ryzen 8000 are not included, they're low cost APU's for more entry level systems, due to be announced in January).

If you need it, here's a review of the 7800XT, which largely competes with the RTX 4070. I believe their test bench is on a 7800X3D as well so the results are what you could expect

Soon will be looking around black Friday to see if anything pops up for a good price
Ah, that’s what I was wondering, it's definitely the best time of year to buy for a good deal.

The spec you have would be really well suited to ultra wide which is 3440 x 1440, usually at around 34", there are already some good deals, but I suspect they'll drop even further. Ultrawide gives a lot more immersion for gaming, and there are some really great options from Gigabyte M34WQ which is already £100 off most places

But I'd suggest don't go with VA panels, with Black Friday deals, it's not a sacrifice worth making, get full IPS
