Thermal Paste for Vortex II

Hi,

I have a Vortex II from 2011 which is still going strong. Best laptop I've ever owned so thanks PCSpecialist!

The temperatures are starting to run a little high so I'm planning on re-doing the thermal paste, just looking for some beginners advice.

- Should I re-do paste on both CPU (i7-2720QM) and GPU (2GB AMD® Radeon® HD 6990M)?

- Can anyone recommend a paste? Arctic cooling and arctic silver seem to be the popular ones, is there a difference?

- Could anyone point me to a reliable step-by-step guide for doing this on my model? (first time doing this, so don't want to fry the machine)

Thanks to anyone who can help me out with this.

hey,

I'd suggest Nocuta's thermal paste, its very good stuff! And its non conductive!

I'd also suggest doing both cpu and gpu. But do not use conductive thermal paste IE Artic MX 5 on your gpu. - Either Artic MX4 or Noctua's thermal paste as both are highly rated and non conductive.

As for methods, a tiny pea sized amount in the center of the chip, watch a few youtube videos/guide etc etc. But Call pcs and ask them to talk you through removing the heatsinks on your model laptop.
