Thoughts on this 1440p gaming build?

Hi all,

I've decided to treat myself to a new rig after a couple years. I'm looking for something that will run 1440p at around 60FPS (let's say Baldur's Gate 3, AC: Valhalla, Cyberpunk) and that has a relatively decent amount of future proofing. I've settled on the below as it will allow for some OCing as well. I wanted to get a sense check before committing. Any input would be really appreciated! Before anyone asks, I am very much settled on the case and form factor.

EDIT for monitor - planning to pair this with a SAMSUNG LC32JG50QQUXEN 31 inc or a LG UltraGear 32GK650F.

Hi, whats your max budget?
Are you able to post the full config with teh link? When you select "post to forums" just post the whole page, helps others put up suggestions for you.

Would also heavily recommend AMD instead of Intel, you will get more for you money and they are more reliable. Intel has a lot of issues and have had for a while by all accounts. AMD is the go-to for pretty much everything but overclocked extreme gaming really.

This would be a (very rough) starting point that I would suggest (mods & co will be able to tweek it for a much better build i should think and get the best out of the budget).

Sorry...just seen is the small form factor you are looking at... will do again :p
Please be aware, that for a proper gaming rig...small form factors are really not the best option due to the limits on airflow and temp controls.
I'd imagine it will one of the first things the more experienced guys will mention too.

The smaller case was part of the compromise with the wife lol - my previous build had a fractal node 304 and in all honesty that lasted very well for 4-5yrs. The Nano seems to be the middle ground for our competing interests.

My budget has a hard cap at 1700. On the cooler front - after speaking to some others I was recommended sticking with an air cooler over a liquid one, will this have any sort of major effect? I am not planning on any significant overclocking at the moment.

If its a decent aircooler, and noctua are very good, then it should be just fine.
This does however rely on what CPU you use...basically, more powerful the CPU, the better the cooling solution needs to be.
In the build I put it wouldnt let me select the noctua which is why i went with the liquid cooler..but as you can see, small form are very limited on options.

Any chance you could convince her a mid sized unit? rather than a full tower?
Might be an idea to think of actual dimensions rather than type...if that makes sense...
Maybe can agree on something like it has to be smaller than (for example) 40x40x20 (HxDxW) type thing? Then see if one of the regular build options has a case you like that fits that? Just thinking out loud.

For a small form though, i would really recommend trying to get a mod to help out, you want real experience and knowledge to get the best out of it if you have restrictions like that.

I had the same issue with the ryzen, which is why went with the i7 initially as it allows for the Noctua C14s. The form factor is a red line (or it was), but might try again. The curse of the joint bank account...

What's your thoughts on the below? I know the motherboard is lower spec but it gets me to the right budget at least.

I would really say stick to a 550 or 570, but that would be more AMD and thinking future upgrades....its a bit different with Intel as the next gen of Intel wont fit any current socket (unlike AMD where a 550 or 570 will support 4000 series AMD and very possibly the one after that)

You really do need a mod here though, this is beyond my realm of experience where you are going small form.

Are you willing to do what I'm doing myself and get a cheap GPU now and in 2/3 months upgrade? This is because you may have seen the new Nvidia cards are coming out which could mean the current ones will get cheaper (this isn't a fact though.. ). I wouldn't buy a 2070 Super right now. My order is for a 1650 super which means my computer will overall drag itself in my screen (3840x1600) for a couple of months.

I'm not sure in all honesty. I have no idea what the price point is going for the new cards, when exactly they are being released or whether they will be in budget, or what the price drop is likely to be for the current generation. As with any tech, you're always waiting for something. From my perspective, I'd rather have something I can play with for 2 years and then upgrade the GPU to a decent model then.

I have respecced to get a 2080s within budget - if you have any thoughts that would be greatly appreciated:

Was just thinking that I get a GPU that will last me the longest period of time before I have to upgrade from the available line up. I am aware that it's not exactly the best value, though while I am able I thought I might as well while I am here. From the benchmarks I've seen, the 2080s does outperform the 2070s, though not by a huge margin.

On PSU/HD - any particular recommendations?
