Thoughts on this, with high end monitor

Why are you so intent on an inferior intel build, especially when factoring in VM’s?

An AMD build would be enormously more powerful in all areas, plus have more cores for virtualisation at less cost.

I know the intel virtualisation tech on an intel gives me the results i want

not sure amd’s equivilents to these
  • Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology ‡Yes
  • Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) ‡Yes
  • Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d)
  • Intel® VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT)
Anyone know if the intel solution i posted seems ok?

When you refer to fast SSD, is that in comparison an M.2 Samsung 980 Pro v PCS SSD ?

Quote - The NVMe 4.0 interface allows the Samsung 980 Pro to achieve roaring real-world sequential read/write speeds of 6,780MB/s and 4,900MB/s respectively, which is about 12 times faster than the average SATA based SSD.

That is the thing with PCIe 4.0, the ability to fit M.2 drives such as the Samsung 980pro.

If disk speed is important that is...

any love for intel out there?
If you really want to stick with Intel, which is just madness, then up the SSD to an M2 drive (the one you have is very slow by todays standards), faster the better. Also up the wireless card to the next one in the list.

I'd strongly recommend a decent warranty.

The monitor isn't suitable for the GPU, either reduce to a 3070 or you'll need a 4k 144Hz or Superwide monitor which will be around £1000

If going Intel and not changing, then you are better waiting for Rocket Lake, whiles it an interim CPU, it will have PCIe 4.0 which will allow you to fit Fast storage and apparently are sorting out some of security issues from current models.

Rocket Lake is due early 2021 but is due replaced later in year IF they solve die issues.

my current system is dead. Fried. I need to organise a system asap, for possible delivery again asap, hopefully before christmas. gonna need to get some gaming in if possible before christmas. Cant dilly dally waiting for new amd or new intel. Whilst your correct. New chips are incoming. Ill probably have to go with something whats hopefully available now. I will investigate further on amd but i need to pull the trigger on a purchase soon.

once again thanks. Dont hold imy fondness for intel against me. lol.

Further to post on Intel.

the next CPU Rocket Lake is expected Q1 2021, then IF Intel get the switch to 10nm architecture correct will be replaced later in year by Alder Lake.

IF that does as Intel want it to, that would be the Intel cpu to go for.

At this moment in time, going Intel a couple months before a new CPU would not be sensible use of cash.

It’s notthing to do with fondness for Intel, I have had Intel CPU’s since my first 386 PC.

I’ve used them since then, which is possibly longer than you. Circa 1988- 1989

The BSOD Doctor
The 'we've always done it this way' argument held UK manufacturing back during the 1970s and early 80's and in my view (and I lived in Birmingham at the time) contributed to the death of the UK car industry and the many related industries that went with it. The future doesn't care that you've 'always done it this way'.

'We've always done it this way' never innovates, never explores, and rarely grows. Instead of sitting on 'we've always done it this way' it's immeasurably more effective to ask 'is there a better way?'. As far as CPUs are concerned there is a better way - it's called AMD.

Wake up and smell the coffee.
