Time for an upgrade - Intel or AMD ?

Looking for advice ... my last custom built PC specialist tower is still going but after 9 years but is really struggling to keep up with what I'm trying to do with it - which is some video editing but mainly high end image/photo editing ... most of my single shot images are 40M - 80M in size and post processing can be 250M - 350M - and obviously processed in RAW or TIFF. Use a multitude of mainline image processing applications for 'normal' photography and also astro photography (which involves a lot of processing of multiple images)

So looking for a rig that can provide fast processing (while on SDD drives) and also provide a lot of storage (the HDD drives) - i will be looking at getting a NAS at a later stage.

Won't be used for any sort of gaming, and will only be using 2 monitors (maybe 3 later).

I haven't included any Optane memory for the Intel option as my understanding is that will only benefit when using a HDD as a primary drive, not as a storage drive as i intend to use the HDDs - is that a correct understanding?

I have only ever had Intel systems before - looking at an equivalent AMD configuration looks pretty good with a AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT 12 Core CPU (4.7GHz/70MB CACHE/AM4) CPU ... but i have no experience with AMD

Appreciate any advice/comments on the Intel/AMD specs below please

AMD are currently out-performing Intel in all ways, including security and it looks as if Intel will be behind the game for a good time.

As a Linux user I have also been impressed with the speed AMD have addressed issues and put out patches. There is a lot of good info about AMD and Intel, plus benchmark comparisons on this site: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=home

What photo editing software do you use, GIMP is excellent and free.

Many thanks for the reply ... looks like a time to jump to AMD.
For the photo software, then for 90% i use Capture One, also ON1 sometimes used. Topaz also heavily used for specific enhancements - and for the more creative side, then it has to be the Affinity suite. Not a fan of Photoshop - outdated imho.
And for video editing ... then i use Vegas Pro

I have been researching different options over the last few days and have come up with the below - Would really appreciate any advice or any pitfalls spotted.

This is going to be used mainly multi media processing and storage. (possibly some gaming at a later stage).

Applications being used will Vegas Pro for video editing, CaptureOne, On1, Affinity, Topaz, for RAW/TIFF editing and also a raft of high processing applications for Astro photography - these apps will just consume the universe if given access - they need to process/combine hundreds of photos (raw/tiff) to produce just one image.

Will be using 2, more than likely 3 monitors.

Really appreciate any advice or comments please.
