Tip Top Spec

I need a bit of advice please.

I'm retiring and looking to build/buy a desktop (not necessarily for gaming) but I will be using it to pull together all the home videos over the years.
I've got around £2000 to £2500 to spend on it, I want a top spec with an 1TB SSD drive for the Operating System (probably Windows 11 as I'm used to Windows over the years), and also room for at least 3 or 4 HDD (which I already have, 2 of which are 8TB).
I've had a look at the 'build it yourself' section and chose the top processor (intel) and 16GB of Ram but I'm not sure about motherboards and the rest. I'd also like a Blu-Ray/dvd writer in it.

If you had the money I do, what would be your spec to do the home video stuff and maybe play a small game with the wife to pass the time (we don't do those 'shot em up' type games, just some sort of detective game or find hidden objects, whic can be downloaded from certain sites).

A couple of builds would help with an explanation of the builds.

Thanks

Firstly, you may want to read this, so you're not buying/configuring stuff that will be a waste for your purposes.

It doesn't sound like you need a super-powerful GPU, so you can use the saving there to get a CPU that is perfect for video editing (a 5900x or 5950x).

BTW, do you have a monitor(s)? If so, can you provide the specs/resolutions/model numbers so we can advise on likely GPU or monitor upgrade options.

Monitor can be purchased elsewhere, depending on your specific needs (maybe a 32" 4k one or an ultra wide?).

Thanks for that, s for monitor, I only got room for a 24" max, I have speakers so I don't need it to have those, I looked at a couple here but not sure which one suits.

Well, I'm a fan of LG monitors, but haven't bought anything 1080p or smaller than 27" for some years...so will bow to the expertise of others on here for suggestions at that size - especially as you're not really after or need a high-refresh gaming monitor.

Thanks, I checked out your spec, and when I moved on to the 'Proceed' bit it threw up a couple of missing bits that I would have had to wait for the build to start, This is now the change in the build I've saved for later :-

One further question,
Would it be better for me to have 1 x 1TB SSD disk or even 1 x 2TB Disk (if possible) and partition it as 500GB for Windows and the rest to use?

That motherboard has 2 very fast PCIe 4.0 m.2 SSD slots, so you might as well use them and save the case space for the HDDs.

It's better to have a separate drive for the OS as it means you risk losing much less if a single drive fails...and means if you need to reformat it (or replace it) to fix an issue, you won't lose any working files...as they're on the 2nd SSD. If it's a single large drive that's been partitioned, then you risk losing all partitions if there's a failure.

The 2nd SSD was simply to use as a disk to keep your videos on whilst editing them - and they you'd move them over to the slower HDDs for longer term storage.

The Corsair H100i RGB PRO XT Hydro will be fine, just thought the extra cooling for a few £££ would do no harm - especially if you do long encodes/renders - but as you say, it looks like it's sold out again. The Capellix are the latest & greatest versions (a bit quieter), but come at a premium.
