To overclock or not

Just joined and I have a question.

I will be mostly using my computer to use Photoshop and video editing (and some gaming!). I have a budget of £1000 and wonder if over-clocking is really needed or does it shorten the life of components and add cost to cooling extras. I don't need a computer to take over the world, but I would like to get a few good years of use out of it. Any suggestions of comments would be greatly received. Many thanks, Mark.

It will shorten the life but not by much as it will only overclock when needed. And for video editing I would say yes get an overclocked cpu as it will cut rendering times. If you can stretch your budget a bit I would get one of the 2 builds and add the ssd later. Both builds will last years and work great for video editing and any adobe software.

I'd have to say I'd recommend also looking into AMD GPUs because the current keppler cards aside from TITAN have very limited compute performance compared to AMDs'. From what I remember reading Adobe is also currently moving towards technologies that will make the full benefit of the compute power offered by the AMD GPUs. However, I'm not saying that GTX660 is a bad card - it's sure to be a very solid performer and have good drivers. (but for me personally, I've never had any trouble with either sides drivers)
