I had a problem with my laptop (spec below) freezing when running Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS. The mouse pointer just stopped moving, no error messages, had to power cycle. It would do it a few times a week. I found that someone had a similar issue (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1571330) and solved it by a grub config file:
$cat /etc/default/grub.d/mobile_lpm.cfg
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="$GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT ahci.mobile_lpm_policy=0"
This seems to have solved my issues as well.
