Ultra Widescreen vs Dual Monitor

Hi guys,

Not quite in the position yet to make a purchase, so just doing my research.

Essentially I currently run a dual monitor set up which is great for my work, as well as having one screen for gaming and another free for whatever, discord etc. Ideally I'd like an ultra wide screen, because - they look awesome. However I wouldn't want to lose the flexibility/productivity that comes with a dual monitor set up.

I believe the Picture-by-Picture (PBP) feature is the answer here, but I'm not sure of the technical limitations and performance issues which come with this. From the little research I have done, it seems this functionality varies massively between manufactures, and a lot of people comment the PC struggling to understand the correct resolutions to use when splitting the screen and causing all kinds of agro. Any first hand experience or knowledge on the matter would be very welcome.

Also, my current set up has my work laptop and personal PC both going into my dual monitors. The ability is flip inputs between the two is something I'd like to keep.

Hopefully a bit of healthy debate to ensue. :)
