Chaptastic and Processor, this is really worrying news as my Vyper II is currently being built and is due next week. I have gone for the RTX2070 with 32GB RAM and Samsung Evo Plus 1TB. So far there have been two people receive this laptop and make a review, both of which are bad news. I am now considering cancelling my order....thoughts?

It seems one of the left fan cables got stuck into a screw head and either shorted or heated up, so I believe the smoke came from the cable. As in it may have been a specific defect in the build of my laptop, and you will be fine?

Hopefully my new Vyper II will also arrive next week, I'm also concerned about the apparent build issues. I think I will need to run a good test of the system before I even bother to install all of my software and updates. PCS should be doing this before dispatch but problems like machines being delivered with wires being shorted by screws are not filling me with confidence.

I'm not sure what the technical issues @Chaptastic referred to are. They're still writing their review, the topic being here:
Could be an issue with the chassis of course, or a software/driver issue (new chassis do sometimes have kinks to iron out with BIOS / control centre software, which PCS do liaise with the manufacturer about). Or a specific fault with the unit. Or something else entirely.

@leefish232 you can certainly cancel the order if you want, or proceed with it and see how it is when it arrives. Whether there's a fault or not, you have return rights to keep you covered if it turns out you don't like it for any reason. Not that a return is much fun of course, but you are covered.

Ultimately the forum is a pretty small sample size out of PCS's orders, and the community is by definition more vocal about issues they encounter with products.

Also the issue that @Processor has experienced doesn't sound like it was the Vyper's fault but rather an issue in the specific building of that unit, and mistakes can be made with any laptop or desktop.

PCS's staff certainly make mistakes though probably no more so than any other company's given the pretty high mass reviews on trustpilot, and they've seemed pretty good at wanting to put them right where these have occurred.

The Vyper's under a lot of scrutiny as a new chassis. It's unfortunate there have been apparently been 2/2 sales with some kind of issue on the forums, though it may not be the chassis's fault and 2 is a fairly small sample size. So not much conclusive for now I guess :)

Well my new Vyper II has arrived and to be honest at the moment I can't fault it, its an impressive piece of kit. A concern I had when I was ordering was the 'travel weight' i.e. including the power supply which rarely gets mentioned so I did a rough check and the laptop, 180w power supply (1660ti machine) and cable came in at 2.3kg which is really quite amazing for such a powerful machine (the cable is a nice decent length but the trade off is the marginal increase in weight).

Excellent - decided to pull the trigger and purchase the Vyper II too. Looking forward to having a dual screen setup for myself and not just at work :)

I have a similar set up, what I didnt expect was how handy the Windows hello camera login would be for this set up

Hi, I have the Vyper II and am noticing that the CPU is getting >93 degrees, with the game center showing a warning. I also note that PC Specialists appear to have stopped selling this machine. Firstly, should I be concerned around the CPU temps - I was only using Unity. Secondly, could someone tell me why it is no longer available and if that means there is no support (drivers etc). On a final note, I purchased a Sabrent Rocket PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVME to go alongside the Samsung Evo Plus. Should the Vyper II support this interface as currently CrystalDiskMark is showing its performing as comparable to the Samsung, so slower than it should be.

Those temps are normal under load. When you say game center is showing a warning, can you take a screenshot? Usually you can manually set warning limits.

Chassis have a limited shelf life, and go out of production quite quickly as soon as new CPU's/GPU's etc are released. It doesn't mean they won't be supported for a good long while.

The Samsung is rated higher than the Sabrent Rocket? Are you sure it's a PCIe Gen 3 not 4?
