Updates Failing

I have a few querky issues internet page links opening in Edge even though I've set my default browser to Chrome, files not saving in Word etc. New PC (10 days ish) so might be to be expected installing all new software etc. The problem is though, I try to restart to make sure all changes take effect, tells me it's updating, gets to 86% and then says that it couldn't update so restoring my computer.

Windows update isn't showing anything. Device Manager all looks good so I'm at a loss...

There were 5 x 2gb files in that CBS folder. Deleted them all, restarted ran again

As it's quite a new system I would probably try a fresh windows install, that would be my go-to. If the errors presented after that then it would likely be down to either harddrive or memory.

Have you reformatted windows before? A proper clean install with deleted partitions etc?

Thank you! Any idea what happens with the Windows 11 serial? It was installed as part of the build so I have nothing to reinstall if I need a serial number or anything...

On modern systems it's baked into the BIOS, or if you applied a microsoft account for login, then it's tied to that microsoft account and will automatically reapply once you're signed back in.

Boom - thank you! Ran this:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

and this:

sfc /scannow

Now it says corrupted files have been fixed so I'll give it a day or two.

It is a new machine but I've spent hours installing all the software I need etc etc so would prefer not to have to go through all that again but perhaps the best solution...
