What are you using the monitor for out of interest?

It's just standard HDMI or Display port, then you can connect usb passthrough for the USB functions.

It's very misleading marketting speak, quite frankly verging on miscommunication. Saying "USB-C" doesn't mean what they're referring to at all whatsoever. USB-C on it's own is simply a data transfer port. It has the ability to carry display port or thunderbolt, but neither of those are inherent to USB-C.

Ok that makes sense. Thank you.
"the USB-C port enables the convenience of a one-cable connection to the computer when performing hardware calibration."
So your right it is confusing as it seems the USB-C port is an additional feature for calibration and not how the monitor connects to a work station.

So I should not have any issue connecting via standard HDMI or Display port.

It's certainly odd marketing, I'm surprised they've been allowed to actually label it as a "USB-C Monitor".

It does look very good aside from that, are you using it for creative stuff?

Yes sorry its a budget monitor which I'll use with DaVinci Resolve for editing and colour grading.

It's pretty high end from what I can see, colour accurate monitors of that calibre are usually pretty pricey. The additional control puck as well is normally a premium feature.

It's really nice, good find!

From the official blurb on the BenQ site, makes it look like everythiong can be done via the UB-C port...though I do wonder if it relates to laptops more than PCs?

"The latest USB-Cᵀᴹ port provides high-speed Video/Audio/Data transmission and power delivery with one single cable giving this screen full usb-c monitor capability..

usb-c monitor sw270c

*The transmission rate of USB-C™ can vary. *USB-C is compatible with Thunderbolt 3. *Please make sure your laptop’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt mode. * Please make sure the purchased cable is certified by USB-IF and is full-featured with power delivery and video / audio / data transfer functions."

Looks like a very good monitor for a £700 price bracket
That’s what annoyed me though, usb-c is not compatible with thunderbolt. They’re 2 independent protocols, it’s just that thunderbolt is carried over a usb-connection.

I think it’s aimed at mac users specifically for thunderbolt.

I found this in the reviews on Amazon
"The only thing that annoyed me was the display port cable that came with the monitor. It was a DisplayPort to mini display port. With many graphics cards using standard display port I had to buy an extra cable to get this to work. Leaving the cables that came in the box useless"
What cable do I need to purchase?

I found this also in the review section
"The refresh rate of the SW monitor is 60Hz but for best results it needs to be connected via Display port or DVI as it is a colour accurate screen and HDMI isn't suitable for hardware calibration."

I just bought a standard disport port so hopefully, I will be covered

This one would be even cheaper as it has a 20% discount voucher:

I'm in Cork, Ireland so that one doesn't ship here but I should be all good now.
Thanks a million for your help, it has been a bit of a mission to get this work station so I'm delighted it looks like its finally happening.

Should I replace the cooling?

Sorry, we seem to have missed that in all the USB-C controversy.

Yes, you really want the H115i RGB Platinum Hydro cooler...or the H100i variant minimum.....you can drop the thermal paste as the either one already comes with high-end paste.

You also want the Strix X570 motherboard

Case fans: I would drop them personally....they may move air reasonably well but are not the quitest of fans. If it was me, I'd see how it goes with the fans the case comes with and, if needed, I'd get good Corsair ones to match the case fans.

Anti-Virus: Drop the Bullguard...it causes more problems than it solves and Windows Defender is as good, if not better.

Wi-Fi: Up it to the AX200...much better card
My PC has been despatched and is being delivered tomorrow.
What are my options now?

I will firstly say that the changes I mentioned would help the system achieve it's full potential....without them it will still work, and should work well, just may not get the absolute max from it....for example, I have seen people pairing low end B450 boards with the same chip and having no issues. Motherboard essentially just gives more stability allowing higher clock speeds; cooler may just mean temps are a little higher as the H80i is an older cooler; Bullguard you can uninstall anyway so no biggie; Wi-Fi you may find it is fine for your uses; case fans won't do any harm and can always be replaced later if too noisy.

As you have a 14 day cooling off period from when you recieve the machine, you can always see how it goes and return it if you aren't happy with it. Alternatively, you could just refuse to accept the package....but not sure if there are any charges etc for doing that..no clue.
Ok great I'll call and see what my options are.
