VFX Artist - needing advice to build beast machine

Would appreciate some advice please? I’m a bit of a Noob when it comes to all the latest specs.

I’m looking for the best possible set up to run Houdini & Maya software effectively.

I do lots of Viewport GPU Realtime Rendering

Also, I do a lot of CPU rendering, high end particle FX simulations which the cache files alone are huge.

I also work a lot in After Effects where I’d like quick playback once memory has cached

Also, I film a lot with a 360 GoPro Max which has huge files too.

My budget is about £6000

I am a bit confused with difference with likes of:

‘VECTOR T9A’

This is Top of range one advertised on your ‘RTX STUDIO, PURPOSE-BUILT SYSTEMS FOR THE DEMANDING CREATIVE’

  • £5860
  • AMD Ryzen Threadripper
  • NVIDIA Titan RTX
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vector-T9a/

Or

HEX Z 6000X DUAL’

I find this if I go via: ‘FIND YOUR IDEAL WORKSTATION’ part of website and look at best configuration based on Maya for interactive rendering I get:

  • £8335
  • Intel® Core™ i9-10940X
  • PNY QUADRO RTX 6000 + 16GB NVIDIA TESLA T4 ATX
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/HEX-Z-6000X-DUAL/

Currys are selling a ‘PC Specialist Vortex XE Gaming PC’ for £3999

Just out of matter of interest how would the 2 above compare to this?:

Unlocked Intel® Core™ i9-10900K Processor

RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD & 1 TB SSD

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti x 2

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/compu...x-2080-ti-2-tb-hdd-1-tb-sdd-10205563-pdt.html

The most expensive one on list is ‘HEX Z 6000X DUAL’, which I’d have thought would have the best graphics cards but to me (John Snow) this looks to be the worst graphics cards?

Hugely appreciate any advice,

Many thanks,

Kelvin

The primary reason the Hex Z is so much more expensive is because:

1/. Intel HEDT CPU, they're immensely expensive for very poor performance compared to a Threadripper. Probably around half the performance in multithreaded tasks.

2/. It has a Quadro card as the primary GPU which is the workstation grade GPU, so much more expensive (although performance is probably worse. It has a secondary 'GPU' which is the Tesla T4, this is actually simply a Tensor core card used for AI.
