Viper III 15.6"

TLDR, I have been nothing but impressed by the Vyper, it is light, thin, very portable, yet a mini powerhouse of a laptop.

I've have had the laptop for 10 days now and so far, I've been really happy with it. I'll proceed to review based on specific features / topics.

Performances: this laptop literally fly (in the very sense of the word, if I detach it from the power cable it'll probably fly out of the window at max fans) - jokes apart, I have the version with the i7 10875H and RTX 2070 (non max-Q) and so far it has been able to really crunch everything I threw at it, Photoshop, Lightroom, Warhammer II Total War, Metro Exodus, media and so on with no issue whatsoever. It has 3 performance types you can choose between, Office - Gaming and Turbo. Office spin the fans at minimum so that the laptop can stay quiet in environments where you have other people sensitive to noise. Gaming is a modular type that adapt fans speed depending on the usage and requirements of the programs you are running and turbo which I believe will give you max performances. I normally use office or gaming, depending what I am doing. You can switch between those through a button on the chassis so is very handy.

Thermals: I think PCS did a good job with the BIO, when gaming my thermals never went above 81/82 C (normally in the 75/79 range if you use some sort of laptop stand / cooler which can blow air to the bottom or at least leave it free / not attached to a surface) for the GPU and around the same for CPU although this vary more, depending on the intensity of the task - all of this in gaming mode. Turbo raise the temps by a couple of degrees more and the gain in terms of performances is minimum IMO. Office is also a nice alternative when gaming, will keep the laptop cool and quiet (temps around early 70s C) but will drop performances a little bit, although I wouldn't say too much, I've notices something like 10/15 FPS drop maybe but this thing will still go strong in terms of performances even with the office mode on.

Portability & Design: incredible, for the power in it - this is very thin and portable. It will fit anywhere you'll put it in. Is not a 14" laptop but really is thin and portable considering what's inside. It also weight more or less like a 14" MacBook so is very light too. The design is nice, in magnesium alloy, is very sturdy and give you a feeling of premium product (not MacBook like, but very similar). The keyboard is nice to type on and it has classic RGB (if you want, you can also turn it off). The trackpad is ok, nothing to call home about but it does the job.

Battery life: I'd say is around 3/4 hours with normal browsing or media usage, 5 hours at maximum if you turn best battery life mode on windows and office mode on the laptop. All in all I think this kind of battery performance is to be expected in such a laptop.

Display: I really like the display, with a matte finish, the black are deep and I didn't notice any bleeding. The 144hz are a game changer too, I came from a 60hz screen and you can definitely see the difference, everything is so much smoother that it'll be hard to go back to 60hz after you'd try it. Gaming at 144hz / 144fps (because this laptop WILL push 144fps easily) is just truly amazing, maybe is just me coming from a generation of yeh, 30fps is (ehm was) enough for decent gaming. Brightness is also ok, not MacBook levels but I think is really good anyway (think is around 375 nits, so still above average which is ~300 nits in laptops).

So all in all:

PRO
1- Performances, top notch
2- Display, great display
3- Design, I liked it

CONS
1- Webcam (this won't be of bother for the majority of the users for this laptops but is placed at the bottom of the screen and is very annoying seeing yourself typing when in video! also annoying for the windows facial recognition - all the time I need to lower my head or raise the laptop)
2- Fans can be very loud when pushing it to the limit but is to be expected, sometimes they go on (albeit at minimum) even when not under heavy load for no apparent reason.
3- Audio, is not amazing, sometimes seems like the sound is coming from a chamber but I guess is to be expected for a laptop, is loud enough to go over the fans if necessary and you might want to use your headphones anyway if you are gaming/doing heavy duty tasks.

Would I recommend it?
For the price point (I payed around £1.5k with 3 days shipping) I'd 110% recommend this laptop to everyone who is into gaming and media editing, if you just do mails, media watching and browsing this might be a bit overkill for you.

Feel free to ask any question!

Hi Sam, great review. I have a question. I was looking to buy it but with 64gbram, rtx 2070 super and the fast 970 evo Samsung. I am dealing only with cad and 3d programs and render. Autocad, Rhino, Vray etc. I was thinking to wait for the new Ryzen 9 5900HX and rtx 3070 though. Have you tried 3d programs and renders on your machine?
Thank you
