Photos

I will be so cheeky as to refer you to the photos from Niao's review thread. Hope you don't mind Niao. The unboxing pictures are almost identical: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?26637-Vortex-IV-(Clevo-P150SM)-Review

First Impressions

I have waited almost a week to post, as I wanted to run the machine in a little, and give it a thorough test through. I find myself enjoying the the clevo build chassis, and have added a few programs of my own liking:

Office Home and Business 2013 - runs really fast from the SSD
Steam (Only game downloaded - the Counterstrike pack!) (I'm too busy at the moment for gaming, or even a well crafted review)
3D Mark (score later)
Autoruns
CCleaner

(too busy for any proper gaming at the moment - or even a well crafted review... I am waiting for September 3rd when Total War II Rome drops through the letterbox :tank: )

Additional peripherals
Razer Deathadder gaming mouse
Coolermaster Notepal U3 - this has not been delivered yet, and I have had no need for it anyway

Fans and Cooling

Are venting well, and at the moment, the underside of the laptop is cool, with warmish areas at the rear (sorry for the lack of detail, and no actual temperature results - 3D Mark hasn't displayed CPU or GPU temperature

The toughest I've put it through is Counterstrike for 1 hour, and 3dMark Firestrike for the 5 minutes or so that it runs. I have experienced no heat issues from this, after being in operation for general office tasks and the above - the bottom is currently still very cool.

The PSU does get hot, it has been plugged in for 3 hours now - and is warm to the touch where the cable to laptop meets.

Performance

I do have an issue with my 3dMark results... http://http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1018851

I carried out the instructions, but perhaps wasn't quite so diligent in terminating all background processes. I am still in the experimentation stage of getting it up, and would love to see results such as Naio's (in the review above) which is a very similar setup (but with 16gb ram, and a 15.3" chassis). My previous 3d Marks have built up as follows:

4748
4748
4750
4755

Getting better, but I was hoping / expected it to be better than 51% of other results...

Additionally, 3dmark did not display the CPU / GPU temperature. I have a full licence version. I don't know why this is. If anyone can assist - much appreciated, as I'd really like to find these out (through 3dmark) - it is a warm day 33 degrees today! (And I'm sitting inside on my laptop....it must be a good one!)

Ordering / Delivery / Customer Service

Very smooth ordering process. Fast telephone answer times.

Second to none delivery. I went for the 5 day option. Ordered it on Monday morning, it arrived on Friday evening. From initial order to delivery 5 full working days. Incredible! Especially as there was some confusion over the bank transfer. Even so I think that would be the fastest way you would get your rig if you are thinking of ordering. After reading about some horrible wait times on here; I would advise Bank Transfer, with expediated delivery...
Though - it all depends on what you are ordering of course..

The only issues I have had are: No mouse included (as described), and the driver CD sent are for Windows 8, not Windows 7 which is what I have.

Overall, - a well built, solid machine which is more than up to the task (so far..) Great job guys!

I hope this helps anyone considering a similar build. Please ask questions, and give me some advice to crank up that 3dMark score!!

Much love to one and all,
JR W

Hey nice build and nice review ! And obviously I don't mind at all if you are using my review for the pictures ;) At least it means mine was useful at some point :D

Regarding your bench, from my post I was running 3DMark 11 and I assume you are running fire strike from 3DMark 2013. I ran a test on this too but the result is posted here :
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?26930-Vortex-IV-(P150SM)-Drivers (if you want to post some review there that would be good too) and my result was 4708.
5296 is the gpu only. Fire work is really oriented high end gaming desktop in my opinion but you can see that 51% higher represent also a really good score for a mobile GPU.

For the GPU/CPU I had the similar issue and downloaded the soft (free version) again and it works after. Not sure why... Maybe try to update if you havent got the last update.

A part from that if you have any reviews on the CPU I would be very interested as I have the 4800MQ and the physics test are lower than I was expected...

Some great answers there Niao thank you. Yes, indeed I was running 2013. I'll check 11 also, and look at downloading the free version and see what happens.

A good thread you've started re: drivers. I'll take a look and post in there soon. Nice one,
