Vyper 17 Slow on Battery

Hi guys!

so they did remove the Vyper 17,3" from their website, but they have just released a new model called "17,3" IONICO", which seems to use the same Tongfang body.

For me as an architect it would have been a better option (i bought the Vyper 3 months ago) as it offers a QHD 100% sRGB display...too late I guess. It also offers the new RTX3060/3070 (Max-Q or not?) while keeping the same i7-10875H.

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/ionico-17/

So are they still using the same Tongfang body despite the performance problems? i've tried to test mine while using it on battery, but haven't noticed any drop of performance...but it was just watching a movie or youtube. How should I correctly test it?

Many thanks!
The new Ionico has a slightly different model number to the Vyper but that's to be expected as its designed for the new GPU's. Whether it has the same issues as the Vyper I couldn't say however I am betting it does.

Testing your laptops performance depends whether you bought the pre "fix" or not. If you bought it before the fix was released on here you would notice it straight away when running on battery.

If you bought it post "fix" then it may well be less pronounced. So for example, for me as I have installed the fix the problems don't kick in until the battery runs down to approx the last third. The performance of the laptop then tanks.

Regarding the Ionico, given the repeated issues facing TongFang chassis we’ve had reported, I wouldn’t be comfortable recommending any of them.

I agree. Forget the battery issue the fact the lettering started rubbing off my keyboard after a month would put me off.

Plus the problems with all the other Tong Fang chassis do not inspire confidence.
Keyboards randomly stopping working, keyboard lights stopping working, keys rubbing off, screen issues.... just a host of problems that just should NOT be an issue, they're fundamentally poor design imho.

Not a Vyper, but a TongFang chassis - I just added this post today showing the keyboard issue:

Review: Optimus Pro XI / AMD Ryzen 4800H / RTX 2060 | PCSPECIALIST

Im really really disappointed now as I have to say I have had absolutely nothing else wrong with this (other than a 'short' connector to the spare charger but not really a laptop problem), and have been really pleased with the laptop, but this is looking awful now so Im not happy any more.

I had exactly the same problem with the Vyper. Shoddy.

I assume not, as no-one has updated yet, but have any of you actually received a refund yet or at least had it confirmed?

This is starting to drag on a bit.

I had confirmation a week ago today that my laptop was on the technicians desk.

Since then its gone quiet.

I am still waiting for a further response to the first message i had from them. Once i have that i can proceed further, but as it stands i am left in the dark. I have a feeling that we are going to have to push this constantly to get anywhere.

I've been wondering this. Lets face it a small minority of customers use these forums.
Yeah that is what made me wonder, as I assume you wouldn't have known their could be a chance of a refund if you hadn't been on here

I did already know.
I identified this fault the first week I had the laptop and I was offered a refund straight away.

I declined the refund on the condition that they fixed the fault. Even if it took a while, I really liked the laptop and wanted to keep it.
