Vyper III review
This is a translation of the original italian review that can be read here:

I write this review following the email that offered me 3 months of additional warranty, the opinions contained here are mine, in addition to the warranty extension I do not receive additional benefits from pcspecialist, and nobody has been able to consult the review before it was published.

Vyper III is a laptop with its pros and cons, like all laptops. The cunning of the consumer lies in looking for a product that has negligible cons and considerable advantages, all while remaining in a quality / price that benefits the portfolio. People are said to only review when something goes wrong, but that's not the case.

Materials, construction quality, quality control, weight:
I start from this because I have rarely noticed the material with which a laptop or peripheral is made, since now the vast majority are plastic.
This is not the case with Vyper III, since the body is made of magnesium (except the bottom, to allow the fans to reach a lower temperature).
Magnesium makes it a premium product, that is, it is beautiful to look at and to touch. Don't skimp on this choice, because I much prefer to have it, rather than not. Having it, it will surely be difficult for me to go back to the plasticone of many other famous brands.
Also, obviously but not too much, magnesium is a more resistant material than plastic, therefore it will be more durable, but in some way it makes the laptop lighter, in fact it is the lightest laptop I've ever had, 1.5kg, it seems to have a Tablet in your hand!

The laptop is well built, that is, there are no protruding points, cuts or shortcomings, the quality is equal to other brands that use metal bodies.
It also has no dragons, multicolored flames or hilarious writings anywhere. The pcspecialist logo behind the screen is very simple, the laptop would not disfigure in an advanced research laboratory, or in any other professional environment.

I am really satisfied and impressed by the materials used and the construction:
10/10.

Components
This category refers first to the "standard" components or the components of the Vyper III that cannot be changed, such as screen, drums, sound, keyboard, input. After the configuration that I personally chose.

The screen: it is in 144hz, technology that I had never tried, it is another of those things that I can't do without without it, when I play with my 60hz (external) monitor it's not the same thing, it seems to play more slowly. The difference is also noticeable in the Windows system, moving windows, or watching videos. The brightness is really remarkable, I have not tried it outside the home, but now, in August, I never thought that I would have wanted more brightness.
The screen used on the Vyper III is capable of reproducing up to 72% of the color range, a significant number for a laptop, considering that many other screens reproduce 45% of the color range, in fact I have left out many other laptops before getting to this one Vyper III precisely for this.
The screen has a very thin frame, 2mm, which really makes the difference, there is no wasted space, it is truly a pleasure to watch.
10/10 screen there is nothing I would like more.

Keyboard, battery, inputs:
the keyboard is in Italian in my configuration, but I have reason to believe that it doesn't change much in other languages. It has all the keys in "big" size, the enter key is not halved, the numpad is complete, it is a pleasure to write and play with it. The only flaw, after less than a month of use, the letters D and S have started to fade, so I remove two points from the 8/10 vote.
the battery seems large but nothing special, powerful enough to last 3-4 hours, and small enough not to weigh down the laptop excessively. 8/10

Input:
The inputs of the laptop are all what is expected, 3 "normal" USB ports; 1 usb-c thunderbolt port, which does not allow charging of the laptop, Ethernet, Hdmi, audio and microsd.
Personally I would have preferred that the microsd was totally inserted, in fact it remains outside for 2 millimeters, which seem to be few, but a right hit in the right place could destroy the inserted microsd.
Remarkable the presence of 3 USB ports, many laptops support 2, or even one. I have no idea how other users can use a laptop with a single port, once the mouse is inserted, how do you do it?
Small inconsistency in the product images, in fact they show two displayport connections, which are not present in my laptop, also the Ethernet connection is behind instead of the side. I don't use them, but I found it strange not to have them.

Nothing to find in this point, 10/10

My personal configuration: rtx 2070, DDR4 SODIMM Corsair 2666 MHz 32 GB (2 16 GB), PCIe INTEL® 660p M.2 NVMe 1 TB SSD (up to 1800 MB / sR | 1800 MB / sW)

The video card is capable of playing any game I have tried so far, reaching the 144 FPS that the screen supports. I tried battlefield 1, and the FPS products often exceed 180, with all the settings at ultra, also I tried battlefield 4, older title, in which you can also reach 200FPS. While with less optimized games like the most recent battlefield V it reaches 80FPS, but I would not be able to recommend that game even by mistake.
Finally I found it hilarious that in quake 2 RTX (available on steam) it is able to reproduce stable 43FPS, due to ray tracing.
The temperature is dissipated by the powerful fans that throw air behind and to the side of the laptop, efficient because the temperatures are kept stable, together with the FPS produced. There are other settings in the dedicated software, for those who want a less noisy gaming laptop.
I chose the RTX 2070 not Max-q, not super, because the super version is limited (in all laptops, not only in this one) by the power that the power supply can give it, or it is slowed down because it does not have enough electricity. It was also a 13% increase but almost 150eur more.

I don't think I will need to upgrade anytime soon, as I have equipped the laptop with the maximum amount of RAM supported, at 2666mhz.
I chose intel NVMe, although slower than the Samsung offered, because the Samsung model overheats to exaggerated numbers (91 ° !!) and in a laptop the high temperatures are what I want to avoid.

Components (personal) 10/10

Sound
is the sore point, undoubtedly the worst part of the laptop, the speakers supplied have too low a sound, often I can't hear youtube videos because they are so silent, also the quality of the sound reproduced is low, croaking at volume high, without bass, it seems to hear audio through a cave.
In addition, when a game that requires significant computational power is started, the fans are at their maximum, creating a noticeable noise, which further covers the speakers.
Not bad, because I personally listen to my music with headphones connected to an external AMP / DAC, but this does not mean that I must not be forced to use them to fully enjoy the sound, especially considering that it is a laptop, and I don't always have the possibility of bringing this additional equipment with me.

Sound 4/10, consider using headphones.

Software
I have de-selected the installation of windows 10, i.e. the laptop has arrived with a version of windows10 to activate. However, I uninstalled it to install a version and a key that I had from a previous laptop. I therefore had to re-install the drivers, which are provided in the reserved area of the site, but are incomplete. In fact, the driver of the Wifi card is not provided, and I had to search on the official Intel website, an operation lasting 2 minutes, but which less experienced users might find difficult, as they are usually downloaded from Windows 10, but without the Internet this is not possible.
It also makes me wonder if other drivers are missing, such as that of the touchpad, which is not provided.

Software 9/10

Total:

The laptop has everything I wanted, high-quality screen, powerful and well-dissipated video card, built with quality materials and very light, possibly the lightest laptop I've ever had and will never have. The sound diminishes the final grade, as it is really bad, but this detail can be remedied with headphones, and in any case there is not much to expect from a laptop in that department.

Overall: 9.5 / 10

Hi Michele.
Thanks for the review!
Did you take measurement of the thermals whilst gaming?
CPU and GPU temps?

thank you! much appreciated!

Hi Michele.

CPU and GPU temps?

Didnt give it much thought, i'd say it runs around 81°c while playing battlefield1 for hours, and stays stable in both framerate and temperature.
temperature idle on very hot day (40°c) in august, in italy, is 60°c. that said i've never experienced a day this hot.
if you want me to test with other games or software, just tell me! ;)

To set up windows you would first plug in via ethernet to install all basic drivers including wireless.

Regarding sound, have you got soundblaster installed as that will improve the sound enormously?

to set up windows i first download all the drivers to offline storage, in the event the ethernet doesnt work.
The Vyper III has a THX driver, which i installed. It did increase the audio volume, but worsened even further the audio quality, making it sound even more distorted.
If there are other solutions i'd be more than happy to try them out!

Ethernet always works with a default windows driver, that's the beauty of it.

Yes, I believe it needs some configuring to get the external speakers to sound semi decent.

I'm fairly happy with this laptop. Just know that the webcam is strangely located between screen and keyboard and the webcam is embarassingly terrible. Not ideal for calls with video.
