warranty period

just something else to carry on from my post yesturday, just looking through the welcome booklet form PC Specialist to find out thw warranty, going by what it says they only cover the PC bundle for a period of 1 month unless i take out the extended warrany. Surely this is illegal under UK law as everything in this country is covered by a minimum of 12 months. It does not even state on currys anything about the warranty for this bundle.

This upgrade bundle is sold through currys but is put together with an overclock by PC Specialist surely they are the ones that have to cover the warranty ?.

just being unsure now about buying this bundle, i have not put it together in a pc yet as have to speek to PC Specialist about the packaging and damage to fan pins .

PCS's usual basic warranty is 1 month's cover for collection and return (i.e. courier costs covered), 1 year for parts, and 3 years for labour. Plus lifetime tech support I believe.

So if the CPU snuffed it in 3 weeks, they'd replace it and cover shipping costs. If the CPU snuffed it out of the blue in 6 months, they'd replace it, but you'd pay for shipping. It's pretty common you'd pay for shipping with warranties.

Some parts may also have warranties of their own beyond the 1 year offered by PCS, which you could access via the manufacturer or through PCS. PCS would need to confirm if that applies to any parts you've bought.

As you saw from your other post, none of us here are very familiar with the bundle (we're just PCS customers like you, not staff, and most of us had never heard of the bundles!). So I for one can't give specific warranty advice about it. The above is just what I'd expect from PCS's usual warranty provision.

You're in contact with them about the damage to the item in shipping anyway, so do get that clarified too. And perhaps feed back to PC World / Curry's that they should include warranty info.

In all honesty, if I'd bought something expensive that had been a bit bashed about in transit and showed damage, I would probably ask the store I bought it from for a full refund, and then review my options.

You might well choose to buy the same bundle again, but at least you'd have the chance to get clarification on the issues that have presented themselves first and make a fully informed purchase :)

I assume you bought the upgrade bundle for an easy upgrade.

And to me, the most convenient route would seem to be to return the whole product to the shop (Curry's) and get a replacement, or a refund. Rather than the warranty RMA route of getting individual parts replaced.

Could be worth going into your local Curry's store to discuss, taking the thing with you. I'd be tempted to ask if they can have a replacement shipped to the store, which I could open in front of them to make sure all was in order. Or if getting a refund, and buying a new one, get it sent to the store for collection and open it in the store to check all appears fine. Worth having the conversation with them to find out what they can offer to give the most peace of mind for the least hassle, if you can get to a store.
