Website issue for Cases with integrated SD card readers & minor support issue

Thought if I don't say anything, nobody will know, and that doesn't seem to be the spirit of this forum!

Initially had a quote from another company to build a PC, wasn't too happy with their response times at sales stage, so decided to look at PCS.

On building my chosen spec and pressing proceed, the website said "This case doesn't support card reader, please remove [from spec]..."

I was a bit gutted as I'd fallen in love with the case (Silencio 550), but chose a different case anyway.

On pressing proceed I was greeted with the same message, to remove the card reader as it's not supported. Same thing happened on all the cases I liked.

Well, a card reader is a must, so this was no good, and I almost gave up and started re-enquiring with the other company.

Anyway, I then notice all of these cases actually have Card readers built in to them, but there's nothing on the website to say this. Now I'm thinking although in the pictures there's a card reader, maybe PCS wont make it functional, i.e it wont work.

So I emailed and asked

"Your description for COOLERMASTER SILENCIO 550 QUIET MID TOWER CASE does not mention that it has an SD card reader, Can you please confirm that the SD card reader is in place and that it will be functional?"

And received this (incorrect) response:

".....unfortunately a card reader is not available to be fitted to this case, it doesn’t have a bezel to cover the front of the case."


I was convinced my question hadn't been read properly, so I phoned and it was then confirmed a card reader is installed as standard to that particular case and it will be connected and it will be functional.


So, my suggestion is, if a case has an integrated card reader as standard, when clicking the proceed button on the quote stage, rather than say this:

"Unfortunately the case you have selected does not support an internal memory card reader. Please de-select the memory card reader or alternatively select a different case."

It should say this:

"The Case you have selected already has an integrated SD card reader as standard, Please de-select the memory card reader or alternatively select a different case."

I was persistent and it turned out ok in the end, but you could have lost my sale through it, and you may have lost others sales.

It sounds like another good solution would be to make the built-in card-reader a non-modifiable choice (like the soldered-on GPUs on the low/mid-range laptops).

You know, I've never in my life used one of those card-readers, but I'd also feel, obscurely, that I was missing out if I didn't have one.

Thanks for the feedback. We will look to improve on our communication here to specify that the card reader is included. :)

Whilst your reading this, I started another thread and it displayed fine. Then I edited it to add a configuration link and the thread exists but the post has disappeared and there was no mention of it requiring moderator approval so I'm concerned the post wont be sent for moderation.

It was in the moderation queue, is now approved :)

Many thanks all changed :) - that will teach people for using old case templates and not checking things ;)

Wow.... That was quick, excellent work, its perfect. Would have saved me some confusion and an email and a phone call to support had it been worded like that at the beginning, so hopefully it'll do the same for others in the future.

Wonder if now is the right time to say the discount code box, which was visible initially, but seemed to have gone missing when I paid..... so I never got the chance to get my £15 off :eek:

Give PCS a ring, explain that the dicount code disappeared and they might refund you, as they did for the chap in THIS THREAD.
