what Should I upgrade to, and a few questions?

Hello, I bought a gaming pc on here around October 2020, it's still running well. However, I am looking for things to upgrade. My current Gpu is a GTX 1660 super, and my cpu is a ryzen 5 3600 6 core. I'm not sure how good the motherboard is but it is a Asus rog strix B450 F-gaming.

When I bought the pc I had a low budget, the pc costed around £852 at the time. I also, got a kinda low budget case and did no research into the case, which now I regret since doing research now It seems if I actually posted my spec when I bought it the case would not have been recommended as has poor air flow and loud fans. The 3 fans run at a constant speed and are connected to the pcu.

I'm not that great at pc technology and replacing things but have done a lot of research recently about how to replace gpu, cpu, fans, and cpu cooler.

So due to my case fans being loud I was also wondering if you could recommend me fans that I could replace them with, I have added no fans since I bought the pc so has the standard amount. So what fans would you recommend I should buy and replace them with, or do you think it's better for me to buy a completely new case, but not sure if I want to transfer everything over to the new case since I am no pc expert, and something could go wrong in the process.

And, what would do you think I should upgrade my cpu and gpu to. I don't want something that's super expensive, but something that is an improvement from what I have got. I was looking at Rryzen 7 and 9, as they don't seem to expensive but not sure. I was also looking at the rtx 3060 ti, but don't know if this is a major improvement or not. I am not planning on upgrading everything in one go, but slowly start to upgrade everything and improve my pc. Also, considering I have heard the 4000 series is coming soon idk if I should wait till then before buying and gpu as prices might fall, but still not sure.

I also have a few other questions sorry if these are dumb, I'm not great when it comes to pc upgrading and wiring. I see people with like rgb wires but not sure what they are called or what they are used for. I also see people with gpu that have lights and wasn't sure if you have to add them or if some gpu's have rgb built in.

I'm and also not 100% sure how to cable manage inside the pc and make everything look the best it can with no loose wires, It's fine rn as I have not touched the inside other than cleaning dust since I got the pc but feel like I will make the inside look bad when I start doing the wires by myself.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya, can you post the full specs from the order page?

What make and model monitor ar you pairing with?

Where is performance lacking? On any particular software / game?

Yeah the 3600 is still a fairly solid chip and the motherboard was very good at the time of building

It's hard to offer advice without knowing the full spec though and why you want to upgrade

Monitor - MSi Optix G271 Esports Gaming IPS Monitor 27 inch 144hz 1920 x 1080. I also have another monitor but I don't game on that one.

I play lots of games but Games I have played recently are Rust, Ark, minecraft, RD2. I think rust I always run between like 50-70 fps sometimes a little more I play around with my settings on the game quite a lot.

I am thinking of buying the Corsair ICUE H100i Elite Capellix liquid cooler, not sure If I 100% need it but looking of making my inside of my pc have more rgb.

There is not something inparticular I need to upgrade but when I bought the pc It's been a while but always had a plan to eventually start to upgrade parts.

Like I said I know it's not a good case but obviously I didn't do enough research on it at the time, so obviously most likely eventually I want to maybe upgrade the case fans. I the noise is not that bad when your playing and watching stuff but when pc is on and your just in the room you can hear the fans

I can tell you just by looking at this the performance problem is the RAM. 1 Stick of RAM will kill the performance in any build they are made to work in pairs. Get another stick of RAM in there and you'll notice massive improvements

That power supply will be your biggest problem though, not many upgrade options with such limited power to be honest

Thanks I was looking at some more RAM as well but just wasn't sure how much that would change the performance. Yes when doing research I have realised that I would probably need a better power supply, but would probably buy a better power supply when buying the gpu. WHat Gpu and cpu would you recommend if I was to upgrade.

I was looking at getting the Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16) DDR4 3600mhz, C18, High performance Desktop Memory kit. Is this good. Mainly was looking at this due to wanting more rgb inside my pc as it is very boring inside at the moment.

Also, what fans would you recommend I get so i can change my front 3 fans or do you think it would be way better if I get a different case and transfer everything across to it

And, do you think I would eventually need to upgrade my motherboard as there is a lot better ones and mine is apparently pcie 3.0 not 4.0 meaning if I was to maybe get an RTX card My performace would be slightly worse with pcie 3.0. Only probelm is Idk how confident I am at disconnecting and reconnecting everything, I have watched videos and it seems sort of simple but just think I could do something wrong.

You honestly don't need more RAM 16GB is usually ample enough but I would say you absolutely need two sticks

That RAM should work fine in there yes, the 3200Mhz RAM is C16 though which is a faster clock, will offer similar performance for a little bit of cost saving

As for PCie 3.0 RTX will still work and modern cards will work in them. There will be a marginal performance difference but it's honestly not something I would be overly concerned about, for now the RTX 3000 & RTX 4000 Series GPU's will support PCie 3.0 to my knowledge

Alright thanks, I will look at the RAM you suggested.

Thats alright then if it is only a marginal difference then it's fine was just worried that my motherboard would need upgrading due to having pcie 3.0 but seems like the motherboard is decent and I won't need to upgrade.

Would you say it's better for me to change my case fans or should I just get a better case, if I chnage case like I said the worry I have if I do something wrong but maybe as long as I follow a decent youtube video it should be fine.

like I said above I was looking at this I am thinking of buying the Corsair ICUE H100i Elite Capellix liquid cooler. Is this good or is there something like this which is a better value for money, I current just have the standard amd cpu cooler. I obviously am looking at getting more rgb inside my case.

Obviously, like you mentioned I will need to upgrade my power supply what W would you recommend should I just go for the 550 as I currently have 450 or should I go for 650 it probably depends on my upgrades.

I was looking at the Ryzen 9 5800x as an upgrade from my ryzen 5 would this be a good upgrade or should I get something else, and for my graphics card I was looking at maybe getting an RTX 3060 ti would this also be a good upgrade or do you think I could get something better for the same value. I'm obviously kinda new to all this pc stuff.

Honestly mate I would bother changing the CPU, the 3600 is solid and should have another few years in it before you'd need to change it. I personally wouldn't even think about changing it to be honest, it's also a very efficient and cool running chip so you don't need anything crazy to cool it. The H100i would be massive overkill but I agree it would look great

To address the major issues in the build first is the RAM that's glaring

Second is the power supply, personally I'd recommend 850W minimum the RMx model specifically. The new GPU are looking to be super power hungry and the 3000 series are pretty hungry themselves showing a trend towards components becoming more power intensive so higher wattage PSU's are required.

Next big problem is the case, I would look to do a transplant to a new case but I would do this when I have a PSU ordered as well and do the big transfer all at once instead of in stages.

For 1440p gaming and that being your goal, and looking to upgrade what you're trying to upgrade this is what I'd get from PCS

First - 2 x 8GB 3200Mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM (RGB Optonal)
PSU - 850W RMx Corsair PSU
CPU Cooler - H100i (Optional the Wraith that comes with the 3600 is actually decent but it's up to you)

I'd then get a case something like the Lian Li 215 or the Corsair 4000D which are reasonably priced and very good

Then finally the GPU, I think the 3060Ti would suit the build nicely and allow very good performance when paired with the 3600 at 1440p. I honestly wouldn't change the CPU

Thank you I will have a look at your suggestions. just curious out of the two cases you suggested what one would you prefer and I assume if I was to upgrade my psu to 850 it would work in my current gpu because my gpu would probably be the last thing I would upgrade out of everything you suggested.

Also, considering my monitor is 1920 x 1080 would I need a better monitor in order to have 1440p gaming, and you offered 2 x 8 3200 mhz ram if i really wanted to could I get 2x16 or is that way to much, and eventually I would probably want all 4 ram slots used with rgb so would getting 2x8 now, then maybe later down the line get another 2x8 would that be good.

and where is the best place to buy these parts should I buy them of your website or is there a different website that I should use.

One last thing what is the best way to cable manage should I try and hide as many cable's as possible and then use cable ties or is there a better way to do it.

I'm just a guy on the internet mate I don't work for PCS, we can't comment on things that aren't PCS builds though, upgrading your current rig is fine but I can't start linking to things off this site it's against the rules

Yes would need to upgrade the monitor to get to 1440p. The 3060Ti would be mostly wasted at 1080p as you wouldn't get the full benefit, it's more powerful than that

On the RAM more RAM doesn't improve anything. RAM is either used or it isn't, having more doesn't make it better so only put as much RAM as you need. Otherwise it's just sitting there not being used but costing money

Cable management is an art mate and there is no good way, you just have to try and make it work and hopefully the case helps. Some cases have nice features for cable management, the 4000D has some good channels to help route cables for example

Alright thanks for the help, I will probably go for the 4000D as it looks like a really nice case.

I actually thought you worked for PCS because you where super helpful and knew a lot about pc parts and components.

Alright thanks, I will just stick to the 2x8, just want as much rgb in my pc as possible so was just wondering If I could get more but if it's going to be a waist I won't.

Yes I know, I just see lots of pc's that look incredible as there is like no cables showing and they have lot's of rgb. I'm sure I will learn how to cable manage but just think It's not going to go very well I'll try my best and considering it will be my first time doing it idk how it will turn out.

Alright, I probably will use PCS to order my stuff, I was just wondering if there is any other places but will probably just use this website.

I would assume my motherboard would fit in the 4000D.

one last thing what monitor would you recommend for 1440p gaming.

Thanks for the advice
